Acne

We Recommend Our:

  • Basic Skincare Set to adjust each product usage as needed for adaptive acne skin types. We are happy to provide a free individual consultation on how to use these products after the purchase of this set. Please read more information below for how to use and other tips.

Acne is a complicated skin issue involving a variety of internal and external imbalances that differ between every individual depending on genetics and other lifestyle factors. If changing your external product routine is not sufficient after a few months, it is necessary to take a look at other lifestyle factors.

See our Rosacea tab below as both acne and rosacea can occur together, or the two are often confused as the same.

How To Use and Why We Recommend These Products
  • There are specific types of bacteria that live on the surface of the skin and in the pores. Acne is caused by an overgrowth of these bacteria types in which the skin is not cleansed properly and regularly, nor is it being rested and fed from an improper diet/lifestyle, and/or the skin is suffering from hormonal imbalances that cause an overproduction skin cells and oil.
  • There are actually different types of acne bacteria that respond differently to certain treatments.
  • There are the acne bacteria that aren’t affected by alkaline products because they thrive in an alkaline environment.
  • Then there are the acne bacteria that aren’t affected by acidic products because they thrive in an acidic environment.
  • An effective routine is combining these two environments 2-4 times per day in a step-by-step process, in addition to replenishing the skin’s barrier afterward with non-comedogenic moisturizers and protectants if the skin becomes too stripped.
  • A weekly gentle exfoliation and facial mask/peel is also recommended to quickly renew the skin’s surface cells for a deep cleanse and rejuvenation, revealing smaller pores and healthier skin faster.
  • Stick to basic product recommendations and a cleansing routine like the one above as a strict schedule, but adjust it according to your skin’s adapting needs. Acne-prone skin types shed their epidermal cells 5X faster than non-acne prone types, and are much more sensitive to changes while also being highly adaptable to changes. Change up your routine if your skin needs it, just always make sure your skin is clean and also lightly moisturized, balance is key! For example, if your skin becomes too dry then try reducing toner usage, but if your skin becomes too oily then try reducing moisturizer usage.
  • Please consider our lifestyle tips below to get the the root of the issues of more stubborn acne cases.
Lifestyle Tips
  • Try to get at least 8-9 hours of un-interrupted sleep every night. This helps to reset hormones and rejuvenate all cells in the body, including your skin cells.
  • Try to drink at least 64 ounces of pure water every day, water helps to renew your skin cells and naturally detox your skin, regulating hormones, slow aging, and so much more.
  • Try to relax and de-stress as much as possible, stress hormones are a HUGE contribution to acne and worry lines! Take everything day-by-day and step-by-step, and take care of yourself when your body is telling you to.
  • Try a form of daily face yoga to detox and drain any stagnant hormones and lymphatic fluids that are causing a toxic environment for your skin – your skin will heal faster and look much younger.
  • Try to maintain a proper posture and deep breathing at all times!
  • For all the reasons above, try gentle, relaxing, and enjoyable exercises that go at your current pace. Do not over-stress or strain yourself!
  • Stay away from your known triggers, some common ones are: Iodine which includes Iodized Salt (“salt” on the ingredient list is also iodized), Seaweeds/Kelp, and Seafoods (especially Shellfish), Peanuts and other foods high in androgens, Biotin, B6, and B12 supplements, Vegetable Oils (Canola, Corn, Soybean), Soy Products, Industrialized Dairy Products (especially animals supplemented with salt and teats treated with iodine), Caffeine, alcohol, highly processed sugar (blood sugar spikes can elevate cortisol and exhaust the adrenals, making the the body produce too much testosterone), highly processed foods/ingredients, refined/processed carbs, dairy products with higher IGF-1 hormone levels, etc.
  • Refrain from picking or popping pustules.
  • Eliminate chemical detergents and synthetic fragrances from your laundry washing routine (this includes dryer sheets). Try making your own laundry liquid or powder with our Unscented Washing Soap (recipe ideas included), and use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. Scents of any kind (including essential oils) can dis-regulate hormone production, and detergent chemical or waxes from dry sheets can clog and irritate pores.
  • Avoid comedogenic products on your skin where acne is prone. Please reference our handy guide below.

Age Spots

We Recommend Our:

Why We Recommend These Products

Age spots are caused by overactive pigment cells. Ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up the production of melanin, a natural pigment that gives skin its color. On skin that has had years of sun exposure, age spots appear when melanin becomes clumped or is produced in high concentrations. We recommend our UV light sun cream and our products that compliment sun protection with high anti-oxidants for this reason: to prevent and reverse sun damaged skin.

Bug Bites

We Recommend Our:

Why We Recommend These Products

Bugs are attracted to your CO2 exhalation, which occurs not only from your mouth and nose, but also your skin – especially where your veins are more exposed! Bugs can be attracted to sweet and strong smells or bright colors, tricking them into thinking that you are one big moving flower! Bugs can also be territorial, using their small yet very annoying defenses against anything (or anyone) they feel is a threat. Our Bug Off products can help mask this attraction or threat sense.

Bug bites or stings can cause a slight allergic reaction or inflammatory response on the skin’s surface, causing irritation, itching, burning, or stinging. This can be remedied by applying the product recommendations above along with some ice or cold compresses to reduce swelling.

Cancer (Skin)

While the product recommendations below are in no way guaranteeing a skin cancer cure or skin cancer prevention treatment, many studies have shown that CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) has anti-cancerous properties, such as that are found in 100% grass-fed suet tallow. (Source) Certain essential oils and plant compounds have also shown anti-cancerous properties, such as frankincense. (Source) It is also well-known that protecting skin against UV damage will also help deter cancerous growths.

Avoiding questionable ingredients, known triggers, and harmful chemicals, while protecting and nourishing your skin can go a long way for some patients. However, we are not doctors, so please consult with your licensed medical professional caretaker before combining skin treatments.

Cellulite

We Recommend Our:

Why Cellulite Happens

  • As fat cells increase, they push up against the skin. Tough, long connective cords pull down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling, often referred to as cellulite. Cellulite is a very common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen.
  • Cellulite can even happen in overweight young children, although it is a common concern for aging women around the thighs and buttocks.
  • The best remedy against cellulite is to retain a healthy weight and also exercise, specifically targeting those areas that stubborn cellulite can be seen.
  • A good exfoliation or circulatory stimulation of the top epidermal layers can also help to break up the dimpling, but this is only a temporary effect and will return if the fat cells stay the same size.

Combination

Use a combination of the recommendations in our DRYNESS tab below for the dry areas, and in our ACNE or ROSACEA tabs for the oily areas.

Dermatitis

We Recommend Our:

Dermatitis is caused by a combination of immune system overreaction, genetics, and environmental triggers. If you have atopic dermatitis, your immune system reacts to seemingly small irritants or allergens.

It is extremely important to keep the skin clean morning and night (with our unscented soaps) and constantly moisturized (with our unscented TallowButters or Butter Balm). Cases of dermatitis have been reported to go away when one is consistent with these practices, abstaining from any other product use. It can take days or weeks for the symptoms to go away, depending on how severe the case is and what the skin is being exposed to, or is sensitive to. If you are aware of any allergic triggers or sensitivities, speak with your healthcare provider about eliminating or reducing these triggers.

Dryness/Cracking

We Recommend Our:

For Light Flaking (click lines below to view products):

For Deep Cracking/Bleeding (in addition to the suggestions above):

Dry skin is the result of improper nourishment, protection, and care of the skin. The skin has essentially lost its ability to form a protective moisturizing layer to prevent external dehydration. Many things can cause dry skin, including:

  • Exposure to the sun, extreme heat or cold, chemicals, or surfactants/detergents
  • Harsh skin treatments such as peels or rough exfoliations
  • Not applying moisturizer after washing the skin
  • Using surfactants/detergents or other very drying soaps to wash the skin
  • Applying sanitizer without also applying a moisturizer after each use

Dullness/Hyperpigmentation

We recommend to Follow Our Skincare Protocol below (select bold text to view products):

Our Basic Skincare Set

Dull and/or hyperpigmented skin are the result of genetic predispositions, dehydration, lack of nutrients, inactivity, post-inflammatory damage, and/or stress to the skin. Here are some lifestyle tips to help in cases of dull skin:

  • Massage the skin and lymph nodes daily through “face yoga”
  • Maintain proper posture and deep breathing
  • Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day
  • Get at least 8-9 hours of good sleep per night
  • Gentle exercises regularly

Eczema

Many successful reports have been made by customers who suffered from eczema symptoms, but no longer do after fully switching over to our products below. We can’t wait to see YOUR results! Read our Testimonials.

We Recommend Our:

For Body Eczema:

For Scalp Eczema:

Eczema can happen for many reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Lack of proper skin nourishment and using products that hinder rather than help protect the skin
  • Sensitivities to body care products and inflammation (see SENSITIVITIES tab below)
  • Dryness (see DRYNESS tab above)
  • Sun / UV Damage (see SUN / UV LIGHT EXPOSURE tab below)

Eye Bags/Circles

Dark Circles:

Why Dark Circles Happen:
Dark circles under the eyes are usually caused by aging, genetics, allergies, eye rubbing, excessive sun exposure, or not getting enough sleep.

Tips To Reduce Dark Eye Circles:

Use a cool compress. Wet a clean washcloth with cool water. While sitting up, apply the damp washcloth to the skin under and around your eyes for a few minutes using light pressure.
Cut down on fluids before bedtime and limit salt in your diet. This will reduce the fluid retention that can cause bags under eyes.
Don’t smoke. Smoking can aggravate the problem of bags under your eyes.
Get enough sleep. For most adults, 7 to 9 hours is a good amount of sleep.
Sleep with your head slightly raised. It may help to add an extra pillow or prop up the head of your mattress. Or elevate the entire head of the bed a few inches. This helps prevent fluid from accumulating around your eyes as you sleep.
Reduce allergy symptoms. Avoid allergens when possible. Try nonprescription allergy medications. Talk to your health care provider about prevention strategies if you develop under-eye reactions due to hair dyes, soaps, cosmetics or other allergens.
Try the recommended products above and switch all your body care products to Perma-Earth to avoid common allergen triggers!

Puffy Bags:

Why Puffy Eye Bags Happen:
Bags under eyes are caused when the tissue structures and muscles supporting your eyelids weaken. The skin may start to sag, and fat that’s usually around the eye can move into the area below your eyes. Also, the space below your eyes can gather fluid, making the area look puffy or swollen.

Tips to reduce eye bags and puffiness:

Use a cool compress. Wet a clean washcloth with cool water. While sitting up, apply the damp washcloth to the skin under and around your eyes for a few minutes using light pressure.
Cut down on fluids before bedtime and limit salt in your diet. This will reduce the fluid retention that can cause bags under eyes.
Don’t smoke. Smoking can aggravate the problem of bags under your eyes.

Ingrown Hairs

Please Follow our Skincare Guide Recommendation Steps:

Step 1: Cleanse (1-3X Daily)
Step 2: Exfoliate (1-2X Weekly)
Step 3: Detox (1-2X Weekly)
Step 4: Toner (1-3X Daily)
Step 5/6: Protect and/or Moisturize (1-3X Daily)

We Recommend Our:

Why Ingrown Hairs Happen:

  • Ingrown hairs occur when hair that’s been removed starts to grow back and curves into the skin. When this happens, the body responds to the hair as if it were an intruder, causing inflammation, which is the typical symptom of an ingrown hair.
  • As our hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells (we shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour) they trap hairs under the epidermis, causing ingrown hairs.
  • Keeping follicles and pores clear using natural soaps with clay, toners (aftershave), as well as using regular exfoliators and clay masks, can help reduce the chances of ingrown hairs.

The common causes or triggers of ingrown hairs as well as some remedies are listed below:

Hair Removal Damage

  • The most common cause of ingrown hairs is an improper shaving technique. However, shaving is not the only way ingrown hairs occur.
  • Waxing and plucking hairs out also commonly cause ingrown hairs. Plucked hair grows back through the follicle. As such, it may not make it all the way to the surface of the skin before turning and clogging the follicle.

Clogged Follicles

  • It is also possible for hair follicles to become clogged by: dead skin, dirt, and debris.
  • When this happens, the hair in the follicle can become stuck or grow sideways into the skin, causing an ingrown hair. In some cases, the hair can be seen growing under the surface of the skin.

Friction

  • Friction caused by wearing tight clothing for extended periods of time can also cause ingrown hairs.
  • The friction caused by body movement throughout the day can also rub hairs against the skin continuously. This causes the hairs to turn around and push back into the follicle.

Keratosis Pilaris

Any product with lactic acid or other AHA’s (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids) will assist with regulating keratin production and rejuvenate skin cells faster. Milk products (especially farm-fresh buttermilk, cow milk, and goat milk) are very high in lactic acids and AHA’s.

It is really important to keep skin clean with our buttermilk soaps, washing morning and night, then immediately applying our milk lotions after. A nice treat for the skin would be our buttermilk bath bombs once a week and our buttermilk clay masks!

In addition to these, a good exfoliation is recommended 1-2 times per week with our exfoliating butters and soaps! This will help quicken cell renewal and allow the lactic acids and other topical nutrients to penetrate deeper into the epidermis for faster results!

We Recommend Our:

Why KP Happens:

  • Keratin is a tough, fibrous protein found in fingernails, hair, and skin. The body may produce extra keratin as a result of inflammation, as a protective response to pressure, or as a result of a genetic condition.
  • Keratosis Pilaris is a form of hyperkeratosis, where the skin produces excess keratin deposits, which appear as many hard, raised bumps on the pores of the skin.
  • We get keratosis pilaris when dead skin cells clog our pores. A pore is also called a hair follicle. Every hair on our body grows out of a hair follicle, so we have thousands of hair follicles.
  • When dead skin cells clog many hair follicles, you feel the rough, dry patches of keratosis pilaris.
  • Therefore, it is very important to use the products recommended above to help prevent the symptoms of KP!

Loose Skin

Rapid weight loss due to surgery, lifestyle changes, or post-pregnancy can result in excessive loose skin since the skin did not have sufficient time to shrink back down at the same rate of weight loss. If the rapid weight loss was more extreme (over 50 pounds), a full correction might only be achieved through surgery. However, taking care of one’s skin can help tighten, tone, heal the skin faster, and make it look healthier before and after surgery. Proper skincare can even reverse the effects of mild to moderate loose skin.

Here’s what we recommend from our product line to moisturize, nourish, exfoliate, heal, and tighten symptoms of loose skin:

Lifestyle Tips:

  • Regular Exercise (3 times a week of weight-training, muscle toning, intensive yoga to build muscle, etc.)
  • Drink 64-96 oz of pure water per day
  • Skin brushing, gua sha, and other methods to exfoliate, increase lymph flow underneath the skin, and improve skin circulation.
  • Eating a diet rich in proteins and vitamins.
  • Protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure.
  • Moisturize your skin and avoid over-drying your skin.
  • Seek a dermatologist for other professional therapies or possibly surgery for extreme cases – congratulations on your journey to a healthier you!

Nursing

Oily

See our ACNE, ROSACEA, or COMBINATION tab above.

Poison Ivy/Oak

Our Recommendations:

Why Poison Ivy/Oak Rashes Happen:
Poison ivy rash is caused by an allergic reaction to an oily resin called urushiol (u-ROO-she-ol). This oily resin is in the leaves, stems and roots of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. Wash your skin right away if you come into contact with this oil, unless you know you’re not sensitive to it. Certain anti-histamine and soothing herbs, as well as detoxifying clay applications, can help to mitigate the allergic reaction and draw out the resinous deposits.

Psoriasis

We have seen many reports of customers successfully reducing or eliminating their psoriasis symptoms after switching to our body care products. Our theory is that our organic, high-quality animal fat moisturizers and raw buttermilk soaps are high in many nutrients people are lacking to improve their immune system function, such as bioavailable Vitamin D3. Buttermilk is also high in Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, which overturn skin cells faster and improve cell regeneration and regulation.

Your skin and scalp literally absorbs what you put on it (think of a nicotine patch or a poisonous frog that you are told never to touch) and it will utilize the nutrients or toxins applied to it, for good or bad. So those skincare and haircare products with questionable ingredients may just be exacerbating the issue! Making the switch to our Sensitive Skin products may just be enough to clear up the concerns (see SENSITIVITIES tab below). Otherwise, please see our other recommendations below.

Our Product Recommendations:

Scalp Psoriasis

Skin Psoriasis

Why Psoriasis Happens

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease (a disease with an unclear cause that is characterized by inflammation caused by dysfunction of the immune system) that causes inflammation in the body. There may be visible signs of inflammation such as raised plaques (plaques may look different for different skin types) and scales on the skin.

This occurs because the overactive immune system speeds up skin cell growth. Normal skin cells completely grow and shed (fall off) in a month. With psoriasis, skin cells do this in only three or four days. Instead of shedding, the skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin. Some people report that psoriasis plaques itch, burn, and sting. Plaques and scales may appear on any part of the body, although they are commonly found on the elbows, knees, and scalp. See examples and learn more at:  https://www.psoriasis.org/about-psoriasis/

Rosacea

We Recommend Our:

Lifestyle Tips

You can improve your chances of avoiding inflammatory rosacea flare-ups by identifying your individual triggers. You can figure out your personal triggers by eliminating some or all exposures. Here’s a list of some of the most common rosacea triggers:

  • Sun sensitivity/exposure (see the UV Exposure tab below)
  • Acne Bacteria (see the Acne tab above)
  • Mites (Dust and/or Demodex)
  • Emotional stress
  • Extreme weather (hot or cold and humidity)
  • Hot showers
  • Wind/Dryness
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Coffee, Soda, Chocolate, Caffeine
  • Spicy foods
  • Acidic foods
  • Fast foods / inflammatory foods
  • Conventional Industrialized Dairy Products
  • Refined Carbs (Simple Sugars and Simple Carbohydrates)
  • Heavy (Exhaustive) Exercise Workouts
  • Overheating
  • Certain cosmetics
  • Certain skincare products
  • Certain medications

Sensitivities

If you suffer from a sensitive or reactive skin type that seems to develop a rash or irritation from using most body care products, browse our product recommendations below. We recommend only trying our unscented products with minimal ingredients first!

Please avoid any products with unnatural chemicals/preservatives, colors, fragrances, or essential oils. This usually means staying away from ALL body care products which contain liquid water, as these always need strong preservatives to keep them shelf-stable for more than a few weeks.

Scalp Sensitivities

Skin Tags

Our Product Recommendations:

Why Skin Tags Happen

Skin tags occur when extra cells grow in the top layers of the skin. They tend to develop when the skin rubs against itself, so are more common in people who are overweight and therefore have folds of skin. They grow both in men and women and are more common in older people and people living with type 2 diabetes.

Try to avoid skin rubbing against itself, and eliminate high sugar consumptions.

Stretch Marks

Our Product Recommendations:

Also see our LOOSE SKIN tab above.

Why Stretch Marks Happen

A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. Not everyone develops these narrow bands on their skin, and much of the effects are caused by genetic predispositions. It is important to always apply moisturizer as the skin is stretching, keeping it always well-moisturized will greatly reduce the rupturing of collagen and elastin.

After the skin has already stretched and the damage has already been done, sometimes it will take a bit more to bring the skin back closer to where it was before, and unfortunately it will never be the same again. However, stimulating the collagen repairs signals by deep exfoliation in those areas can help encourage the skin to repair itself slowly. Our collagen, egg, hyaluronic acid, farm-fresh fats, milk, and buttermilk products contain naturally nourishing and bioavailable ingredients to give your skin the most topical benefits for its journey to recovery!

Sun / UV Light Exposure

Protection and Damage Control:

How It Works

  • Non-nano zinc oxide in our sun cream forms a physical, mineral barrier to reflect UV light rays, instead of letting the skin absorb them.
  • Anti-oxidants like organic Vitamin E and Vitamin C help to prevent the oxidation (aging/damaging) effects of UV light exposure. These can also enhance the effects of a sunscreen when used prior to sunscreen application.

Soothing Sunburn Aftercare:

Why Sun Damage Happens

Sun damage happens when ultraviolet (UV) light hits skin unprotected by sunscreen, causing DNA changes at a cellular level. Because photodamage happens in the deepest layers of the skin—the dermis—it can take years before the damage surfaces and becomes visible.

Dermatologists refer to the damage the sun does to skin by several names, including photoaging, photodamage, solar damage, or sun damage. It happens when ultraviolet (UV) light hits skin unprotected by sunscreen, causing DNA changes at a cellular level. This mainly happens through oxidation of the cells, making skin more susceptible to cancer and other abnormalities like skin tags, age spots, moles, etc.

Recent strong, yet anecdotal, correlations have been made on the effects of consuming highly processed GMO seed oils (humanity’s recent bad habit developed in the last century or two) with susceptibility to sunburns and skin damage. If you suffer from sun-sensitivity, eliminating highly processed GMO seed oils from your diet can be worth the experiment!

Warts

Our Product Recommendations:

Why Warts Happen

Warts are caused by an infection with specific types of viruses. These viruses cause an excess amount of keratin, a hard protein, to develop in the top skin layer (epidermis). The extra keratin produces the rough, hard texture of a wart. Also see KERATOSIS PILARIS tab above.

Plumps skin with hyaluronic acid.

Renews skin cells with Alpha-Hydroxy Acids from milk and buttermilk products.

Moisturizes and nourish skin with high-quality animals fats and other bioavailable nutrients.

Tightens skin with astringent moisturizers.

Why Wrinkles and “Crepey” Skin Happens

As we grow older, our skin can gradually become more loose and flaccid, losing hydration and suppleness. But when skin begins to feel thin as paper, or like crepe, the most common cause isn’t age, says dermatologist Amy Kassouf, MD.

Unlike wrinkles around the eyes and mouth (that result from repeated muscle movements), crepey skin typically can be traced to sun damage. Over time, exposure to the sun breaks down elastin, the fibers in your skin that allow it to stretch and return to its normal position.

Try some form of daily “face yoga” with a good, nourishing moisturizer after your non-stripping cleanser (we have plenty of both, see the Product Recommendations tab above!) that will release the deep wrinkles and repeated tension of the facial muscles, also draining excess lymphatic fluids that retain and exaggerate wrinkles.

See our SUN/UV LIGHT EXPOSURE tab above for more information and product recommendations!
