Breakage
Product Recommendations

Leave-In Conditioning Spray application prior to heat, chemical, or UV light exposure

Shampoos To Moisturize & Nourish for especially dry and brittle hair

Why Hair Breakage Happens

Hair breakage may be caused by many factors:

  • Weak hair shafts due to insufficient nutrition or using products that strip the hair like surfactants/detergents
  • Dry hair that is dull, lacking protection and support
  • Aggressive brushing while hair is still wet
  • Teasing hair during styling
  • Chemical Damage
  • UV/Sun Damage
  • Heat Damage
Brunette/Dark Hair

If you are looking to reduce brassiness in your brunette/dark color, see “Colored Hair” tab.

All of our haircare products will work well with brunette/dark hair colors!

Chemical Damage

Permanent chemical damage from hair treatments, treated water, chlorine and salt exposures, and using the wrong hair products are a common occurrence, and one that needs to be addressed. View our product recommendations below for remedies to these concerns.

Please keep in mind that permanent damage is sometimes just that: PERMANENT. Although our products may help improve the situation, deep damage is most likely irreversible and is only remedied with new hair growth and taking measures against future damage.

Why Chemical Damage Happens
  • Harsh chemical salon or at-home treatments
  • Insufficient time for hair to rest between treatments
  • Constant exposure to chlorine pools, treated water sources or salty ocean water
  • Using harsh or stripping haircare products for long periods of time
  • Not using haircare products correctly, resulting in damage
Colored Hair

These recommendations will help to protect colored hair from brassiness and also help rebuild the damage which comes from permanent chemical dying. Permanent hair colors generally do well with our haircare products!

WARNING: Since our shampoos usually increase hair growth substantially, this will require hair roots to be dyed more often to sustain the same color throughout the hair.

WARNING: Semi-permanent or low-quality dyes may wash out faster due to the more vigorous washing method required to use real shampoo soaps. We ask new users to consider the benefits of healthier hair from using our shampoos to their semi-permanent hair color before using.

All of our hair products are sulfate-free, detergent-free, surfactant-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and CGM (Curly Girl Method) Friendly!

Curly hair is especially prone to breakage and dryness due to the disulfide bond structure shapes in the hair shaft. This unique structure causes more moisture loss, exposure to the elements, and a weaker bond – unlike straight hair types.

Curly hair types really benefit from more moisturizing shampoos, although any of our shampoos will work well when used with sufficient conditioner!

A Leave-In Conditioning Spray can be very helpful with certain hair textures, especially with dry, damaged, curly or frizzy hair types. Just apply after a wash while hair is still wet, scrunch well, and leave it alone to dry.

If our Conditioner Bars are used a certain way, many of our customers have found they can eliminate all sorts of other products they normally would use (such as gels, hairspray, etc.)

To do the leave-in option with conditioner bars: do not rinse out all the conditioner after your wash. While hair is still wet, scrunch well, and leave it alone to dry.

If you need to apply more after the shower/bath application, simply wet the bar and rub it in your hands. Then use what is on the hands to comb through the hair, especially focusing on the ends.

Apply hair oil before a hair wash to further assist in occasional deep conditioning.

Since curly hair is prone to dryness and breakage, we also recommend a weekly Hair Oil treatment.

Dandruff/Itchiness

We highly recommend trying our Conditioner Bars on your scalp before and after every wash to help prevent dryness and irritation. We also have a Leave-In Conditioning Spray that can be used on a dry and itchy scalp.

If using the conditioner bars on your scalp before and after every wash is not enough, and our leave-in conditioning spray is not enough either, then try our Hair Oil before a wash and/or as a weekly scalp treatment.

We also offer a Hair Tea Rinse and/or an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse to help rebalance the scalp microbiome.

In order to relieve an especially problematic, itchy or irritated scalp, try these:

Shampoos for Dandruff & Scalp Health

Shampoos for Scalp Revitalization

Dandruff can happen for many reasons, including:

  • Fungal overgrowth (Buttermilk is a natural antifungal in all of our shampoos. We are also currently working on a zinc oxide shampoo!)
  • Oily/dirty hair from not washing well or consistently (see OILY HAIR tab below)
  • Dryness (see DRY HAIR tab below)
  • Scalp irritations (see Sensitive Scalp tab below)
  • Overexposure to the elements (see UV/Sun Damage tab below)
  • Exposure to damaging chemicals or treatments (see Chemical Damage tab above)
Dry Hair

While simply switching to our basic formula shampoo and unscented conditioner can provide enough nourishment and care to handle dry hair problems, we can also recommend our most nourishing and moisturizing haircare products below.

If your dry hair is caused by Chemical Damage, Heat Damage, or UV/Sun Damage, please see the corresponding tabs for more information and product recommendations.

Why Dry Hair Happens
  • Using products that damage and strip the hair
  • Never replenishing hair nutrients
  • A poor diet or insufficient hair products
  • Harsh hair treatments
  • Constant exposure to chemicals in the water, high heat, or UV/sunlight
  • Curly/Wavy hair types lose moisture faster than straight hair types
Dull/Frizzy Hair

Dull or frizzy hair can happen for different reasons:

  • Dryness (see DRY HAIR tab above)
  • Damaged hair (see the UV/Sun Damage, Heat Damage, or Chemical Damage tabs)
  • Curly hair types (see Curly/Wavy/Frizzy Hair tab above)
Eczema

Many successful reports have been made by customers who use to suffer from eczema symptoms, but no longer do after switching to our haircare products. We can’t wait to see YOUR results! Read our Testimonials.

Scalp eczema can happen for many reasons:

  • Lack of proper scalp and hair nourishment
  • Sensitivities to haircare products and inflammation (see Sensitive Scalp tab below)
  • Dryness (see DRY HAIR tab above)
  • Chemical Damage (see tab above)
  • UV/Sun Damage (see tab below)
Grey/White Hair

If you are looking to reduce brassiness in your grey or white color, see “Colored Hair” tab.

All of our haircare products (besides our hair tea) will work well with grey/white hair colors.

Currently, we do not offer haircare products that guarantee a reversal or a halt to the graying process, although improving your hair and scalp health by feeding it nourishing Perma-Earth products may help!

Heat Damage

Heat styling inevitably comes with heat damage, unless one knows how to protect and nourish the hair!

Hair Loss

Good news, we specialize in hair re-growth and have many testimonials and reviews to show this; no matter if your hair loss is from natural aging, hormone imbalances, stress, poor diet/lifestyle, or postpartum effects. After all, our motto is “Feed Your Hair & Skin From The Outside-In”.

It would take a whole page to recount why shampoo soaps are amazing for hair growth, and that’s exactly what we did! Read about all the specific hair-health and hair-growth benefits in our article “Why To Use Our Shampoo Soaps” for beginners on the fence.

If you would like to grow your hair thicker, longer, and add more volume, please view our recommendations below.

Long Hair

All of our haircare products will work with long hair types!

If you would like to grow your hair longer or add more volume, please view our recommendations below!

Oily Hair

Although switching from detergent/surfactant shampoos to our real shampoo soaps can re-balance sebum production to a more manageable level on the scalp, there are certain shampoos we have formulated for this specific issue. Remember that detergents/surfactants strip your hair and scalp of moisture, which increases sebum (oil) production, resulting in a vicious cycle.

Please also keep in mind that oily hair types may require consistent DAILY washes to achieve cleaner and healthier hair, even with our shampoo soaps.

Psoriasis

We have seen many reports of customers successfully reducing or eliminating their psoriasis symptoms after switching to our body care products. Our theory is that our animal fats and buttermilk soaps are high in many nutrients people are lacking to improve their immune system function such as Vitamin D3. Buttermilk is also high in Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, which overturn skin cells faster and improve cell regeneration and regulation.

Your skin and scalp literally absorbs what you put on it (think of a nicotine patch or a poisonous frog that you are told never to touch) and it will utilize the nutrients or toxins applied to it, for good or bad. So those skincare and haircare products with questionable ingredients may just be exacerbating the issue! Making the switch to our Sensitive Scalp recommendations may be enough to clear up the concerns (see tab below). Otherwise, please see our other recommendations below.

Why Does Scalp Psoriasis Happen?

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease (a disease with an unclear cause that is characterized by inflammation caused by dysfunction of the immune system) that causes inflammation in the body. There may be visible signs of inflammation such as raised plaques (plaques may look different for different skin types) and scales on the skin.

This occurs because the overactive immune system speeds up skin cell growth. Normal skin cells completely grow and shed (fall off) in a month. With psoriasis, skin cells do this in only three or four days. Instead of shedding, the skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin. Some people report that psoriasis plaques itch, burn, and sting. Plaques and scales may appear on any part of the body, although they are commonly found on the elbows, knees, and scalp. https://www.psoriasis.org/about-psoriasis/

Sensitive Scalp

If you suffer from a sensitive scalp that seems to develop a rash or irritation from using most haircare products, browse our product recommendations below. We recommend only trying our unscented products first!

Short Hair

All of our haircare products will work with short hair types!

If you would like to grow your hair longer and add more volume, please read our recommendations below.

Split Ends

Product Recommendations

Conditioners To Protect & Soften

Shampoos To Strengthen & Shine for especially dull and weak hair

Shampoos To Hydrate & Balance to pull and hold moisture to the hair shafts

Shampoos To Moisturize & Nourish for especially dry and brittle hair

Shampoos to Repair & Revive from heat, chemical, or physical damage

Why Split Ends Happen

Split ends may be caused by many factors:

  • Weak hair shafts due to insufficient nutrition or using products that strip the hair like surfactants/detergents
  • Dry hair that is dull, lacking protection and support
  • Aggressive brushing while hair is still wet
  • Teasing hair during styling
  • Chemical damage
  • UV/Sun damage
  • Heat damage
  • Not trimming hair on a regular basis
Straight Hair

While any of our haircare products can be used with straight hair, there are specific recommendations we can suggest for the best results.

Usually straight hair types want more volume, hair growth, texture, strength, and less of a heavy/oily feel. This is how we are basing our product recommendations below

WARNING: Because most new customers have never used REAL SOAP to wash their hair before, an unexpected result is that formerly “straight” hair types actually start to show their true natural texture! Many customers reports seeing beautiful waves and even some curls in their “straight” hair after using our shampoo soaps! We have heard and seen countless times more volume and texture definition just by switching to real soap instead of using detergents/surfactants, which strip and weaken the hair shafts, while real soap helps to strengthen and nourish the hair shafts!

Sun/UV Damage

Sunlight and UV light damage is a common concern for outdoor lovers, athletes, and those exposed to the elements. Common issues include dryness, dullness, bleaching, and breakage. See the corresponding tabs for more information and recommendations in these instances.

Why Sun/UV Damage Happens
  • Over-exposure to UV light or sunlight can dry hair faster, weakening the hair shafts by stripping any protective layers and bleaching the hair.
  • UV light or sunlight can even cause heat damage in extreme situations, leading to breakage, dullness, and dryness.
  • UV light or sunlight is a natural and very potent oxidant, which oxidizes and essentially ages the hair and scalp faster than normal.
Thick Hair

All of our haircare products will work with thick hair types!

Thin Hair

This specific topic covers recommendations for naturally THIN hair. Usually, thin hair types are looking to volumize and strengthen their hair while encouraging new hair growth.

For HAIR LOSS issues, please see the corresponding tab to learn more about this and more product recommendations.
