NEVER ultra-processed or bleached. These factors are extremely important to ensure the best quality tallow – we do not compromise!
Countless benefits…
-
Tallow is an excellent moisturizer used to soothe dry skin. It’s thick enough to handle the toughest rough patches, but light enough to absorb quickly into the skin. High-quality tallow is said to be loaded with the bioavailable forms of vitamins A, D, E and K, plus full of essential fatty acids not commonly found in common modern day skincare. Your skin absorbs these nutrients just like nicotine from a quit-smoking patch – or even a deadly dose of poison from handling a toxic frog. Our skin does utilize external applications – whether good or bad. Consider this the next time you slather chemical-laden lotions on your skin!
-
Yes, our tallows are in smaller containers compared to the big bottles of store-bought lotions: a little goes a very long way! The longer you consistently use tallow, the less you will need, as tallow actually helps to balance and regulate your skin – rather than dry it out as most lotions do. This isn’t an advantage for the seller, but it is fantastic for the consumer! Tallow regulates the skin to rely LESS on moisturizers, instead of training it to depend on MORE moisturizers over time. Therefore, tallow IMPROVES your skin over time, instead of subtly and slowly making it become dependent upon outside moisture, like chemical lotions do.
-
Suet, as opposed to muscle fat, contains a higher level of saturated fatty acids and a triglyceride known as glyceryl tristearate, otherwise called “stearin”. Suet therefore softens and smooths the skin’s surface better than regular tallow fat, while also helping to maintain and protect the skin’s barrier.
-
Tallow resembles our natural sebum (skin oil) and absorbs into the skin easily, which helps to balance the skin’s sebum production after a cleanse. Pair this with the fact that high-quality tallow is non-comedogenic (will not clog pores when used correctly) – and you have a skin-match success for any skin type!
-
The Vitamin D3 found in tallow induces the expression of antimicrobial peptide genes in human skin and plays a significant role in preventing opportunistic infections.
-
Moreover, grass-fed tallow contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). CLA helps skin retain moisture by boosting ceramide synthesis in skin cells; this fortifies the skin barrier and helps to retain moisture in the skin. CLA is a natural ingredient that allows for skin renewal without harsh chemicals or treatments. CLA is naturally anti-inflammatory and may significantly slow signs of skin aging when used consistently for prolonged periods of time.
-
Tallow is usually a wasted product that is thrown away after an animal’s carcass has been butchered. Instead we purchase it, which further supports our small farmers. This means that regeneratively farmed tallow products grown on free-range pastures are actually preferred for the environment – when considering the other options that are: not local, highly-processed in factories, and farmed industrially.
-
All of the naturally-occurring tallow nutrients in their bioavailable forms are more recognizable to our bodies, which means our bodies can utilize them better in their whole, organic state. This places tallow in a tier above all other skincare ingredients: a long-forgotten skincare secret that was well-known by our ancestors over 150 years ago. Now, we have the skincare science and consumer testimonies to prove it.

Walnut Shell Powder
-
A finely ground walnut shell powder to lend a gentle exfoliating effect when used properly. Please do not use more than 2 times per week and take care to use light pressure on sensitive skin.
Certified Organic Vitamin E
This isn’t your regular (questionable) Vitamin E, this is:
-
Only derived from Non-GMO Certified Organic sunflowers – NO soy, wheat, gluten, or synthetic ingredients – there is no other purer Vitamin E on the market.
-
Natural Vitamin E (d-Alpha Tocopherol) boasts 2X (200%) more skin absorption and bioavailability for our bodies to utilize than synthetic “vitamin e”. The most obvious differences between the two types is where Vitamin E is sourced and they even have different chemical names. “dL-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate” (synthetic Vitamin E) comes from petrochemicals. Meanwhile, “d-Alpha Tocopherol” (natural Vitamin E) is made from the natural nutrients of plant oils.
-
Perfect to help keep our unprocessed tallow butter shelf-stable longer by dramatically slowing oxidation, rancidity, and UV damage. Unless you want your tallow to have an expiration date of 3-6 months from manufacture date, this ingredient is crucial.
-
Wonderful for skincare. Vitamin E is an invaluable asset for skin moisturizers, as it speeds healing and increases moisture-retention for next-level youthfulness.* Vitamin E has also been scientifically shown to prevent the breakdown of collagen.
-
An absolute necessity in our tallow butter skincare product for better shelf-stability and beautiful skin…

We often hear the question “Why not make it without Vitamin E?” and if not, “Will you teach me how to make this myself?” If the answers above do not satisfy, or if you want the only ingredient to be farm-fresh, high-quality tallow – then we invite you to experiment with rendering and whipping your own suet from a good local farmer near you and using in 3-6 months (without the addition of Vitamin E) in careful storage. Also, the proper rendering and filtration methods take several hours to carefully accomplish correctly without damaging the suet. It took us years to perfect the process and find the right suet suppliers, plus ALL suet batches are slightly different due to seasons, diet, genetics, locations, etc. – it is a lot to learn and not easy to teach! We do not share our method for making local tallow butter from our suet suppliers – you will need to experiment with your own farm-fresh suet if you wish to attempt to create a similar quality. Thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your support of our hard work!

Please read our information about beading and inconsistencies from natural tallow below.△
△ Beading & Other Inconsistencies
Farm-fresh suet tallow in it’s raw (unprocessed and natural) state can be compared to farm-fresh raw honey. If you have ever had raw honey crystallize after sitting in your cabinet, the beekeeper probably told you it is doing exactly what that product does naturally, and it can be gently re-heated to go back to a more fluid, consistent texture state. Raw, unprocessed honey still has molecular memory – the compounds tend to draw back into their natural state over time, remembering their original composition. This is the same story with 100% grass-fed whipped farm-fresh suet tallow – except that it beads instead of crystalizes. We have not been able to determine exactly the reasons for beading, whether due to abrupt temperature fluctuations, atmospheric pressures, humidity levels, or additional ingredients: beading is a total mystery we are still trying to pin the precise cause of (and we will probably never be able to). Some tallow jars will bead, while others from the same batch stored in the same location do not! The beekeeper will be able to relate: as some honey jars crystallize, while other jars from the same batch do not. We learned this from having our own honeybees for a few years – it is a natural happening with high-quality products, although inconvenient.
You may also notice that raw natural honey (like farm-fresh tallow) is different in texture, taste, and color at different seasons – even from the same farmer and location. This is because of the seasonal availability of food for the bees and other environmental factors. Again, a very similar thing happens with grass-fed pasture-raised tallow: the texture, scent, and color vary at different seasons – even from the same farmers and locations. These are undetermined factors we have no control over due to the seasonal changes of environments and adapting natural genetics.
Despite these inconsistencies, the end performance and value of the product is still the same! With beading, it takes a few more seconds to massage the product on the skin to melt the beadings, that’s the only inconvenience. The other factors of “imperfections” are always a possibility with all-natural ingredients: affecting their scent, texture, color, and consistency. Since the ingredient is still fitting to the description of “100% grass-fed suet tallow” or “raw natural honey” as per our example – the product still works perfectly naturally and is still functioning exactly as stated and as nature intended. We could add more processed ingredients or chemical emulsifiers to remedy this, but we see this extra step as only compromising the benefits of our farm-fresh, natural, animal-based products to maybe only gain a slightly more consistent texture – it’s not even a guarantee! Just like our natural animal fat soaps will never lather like palm-based detergents, our hand-rendered tallow-based products can’t compare to the artificial consistency of highly processed and industrialized ingredients used in other body products.
Therefore, we feel that it is best to consider these inconsistencies as proof of the integrity of our ingredients, and take pleasure in knowing we are rubbing in a more wholesome skin food a little longer than if the texture, color, or scent was exactly “as-expected” like synthetic or highly processed creams are. In short, we do the best we can with what nature gifts us – we hope that you are able to enjoy a truly superior and natural product for your body, despite any organic inconsistencies!
Don’t settle for anything less than the absolute best for your skin

I love this scrub! It makes my skin feel so smooth, especially my lips. I only use it in the shower, so it comes off very easily. It seems best in the winter for me, as that is when my skin is driest.

Thank you so much for your review! We truly appreciate the time and effort you took to share your positive experience of using our product.

Very gentle on the skin ( I used the same pressure I normally used with my old exfoliate, philosophy).
This leaves your skin very soft and moisturized, not greasy. It does take a few rinses to remove, but it is not a problem. Skin type: 57 y/o skin with some sun damage, dry, some fine lines. Highly recommend!

I was so worried this would be too much for my ultra-delicate skin, but it’s wonderful! It’s not too “scratchy” like I had anticipated. Other scrubs in the past (not PE) either did nothing or too much. My tip is to use only a tiny amount. After it’s on the skin, I like to dampen my fingertips to give more “slip” and really get in there. It leaves my skin so hydrated, soft, and radiant!

I am absolutely in LOVE with this face scrub 🙂 🙂 :). Besides being the best scrub I have ever used for polishing your skin – it then leaves your skin nice and moist from the tallow with the perfect glow :). Excellent non-toxic ingredients :). I have tried many face scrubs over the years – and my hunt is finally over – this is absolutely the perfect face scrub and no more switching for me :). Bonus – a little bit goes a long way so a small jar will last months 🙂 🙂 🙂

Before switching to all natural skincare, I used to use Cetaphil RELIGIOUSLY. I loved their Daily Scrub, as my oily skin would get a lot of gunk built up during a day at work! I now use the Tallow and Goat Milk soap from PE and was looking for something to give me that same umpf in addition to the natural exfoliation of a washcloth! This little magic jar packs a punch! The nutty smell is subtle and does truly feel like a special spa moment! The tallow exfoliant is easy to apply and spreads so nicely. I definitely feel there is a good amount of grit to this product, without being too rough on my sensitive skin! Some reviewers said they had difficulty getting it off, but I was able to easily wipe it off with a wet wash cloth and then a little splash of warm water to my face (partly for comfort and partly to get the last little bit of scrub off!) I would definitely recommend this product!

Love this exfoliator. I had sensitive skin and use this on both my face and lips and it leaves my skin so soft and not irritated at all. Purchased the unscented, but will probably try the vanilla next time.

Having dry, sensitive skin, it’s hard to find exfoliators that won’t rip all the skin off my face and leave my skin red for days. Like Perma-Earth’s other products, a little goes a long way. The gentleness of the formula is perfect for my face, and the smell as you massage it on your face is an added bonus!
As mentioned in the other review, it can be difficult to get all of the walnut residue off your face when rinsing, but I find that using two wash cloths (one for an initial pass, and then a second cloth to pass for a final swipe) works well to remove all the product.
Alanna G. –
At first glance, the size of the product seems very misleading. But if you have tried their tallow, then you know a little goes a long way and it’s the case for this product as well. You don’t need a ton of product to get the benefits. The walnut powder is gentle on the skin but personally I’m wanting more of it. I use this while in the shower and find that it’s impossible to wash it all off my face without using another cleanser on top of it and a washcloth. It’s very thick. My skin is soft afterward and not stripped. To summarize: I wish there was more walnut powder for a little more exfoliation power and that the tallow was easier to wash off. It does make my skin feel soft and smooth. I got the unscented version and if I purchased again, I would try the vanilla. APPROVED
Perma-Earth –
Dear Alanna, thank you for your honest feedback! We will keep on experimenting and testing to improve this product moving forward.
