Experience true food for your hair and skin with real, nutrient-dense, traditionally handcrafted soap made with old-fashioned ingredients. Our artisanal shampoo soaps are handmade with carefully curated local, grass-fed, pasture-raised, and organic ingredients – proudly sourced from small family farms and homegrown here in the USA. What we can’t source locally, we seek the highest quality: certified organic, minimally processed, and fair-trade ingredients to feed your hair and skin from the outside-in. No detergents or surfactants are used in any of our shampoos.
When washing properly, our basic unscented formula is suitable for all hair types used as-needed with an optional conditioner. Some scents and additional ingredients on top of our basic formula may alter results for each individual.

Top 3 Tips for Beginners:

  1. Please keep in mind that scent information in this product’s scent tab is based on majority feedback.
  2. Beginners should educate themselves on the possibility of a short detox period and the correct washing technique.
  3. Our All-In-One Shampoo – Body – Shaving soap bars are also suitable for regular body washing, face washing (facial soap directions here), and shaving (shaving directions here). Our ingredients are LOW on the comedogenic scale – so your pores are nourished and cleansed, but never clogged.

Egg Yolk

Raw, Pasture-Raised, Free-Range, Organic-Fed, Local Egg Yolk nourishes your hair with superfood benefits. Egg yolks have an abundance of healthy vitamins, necessary minerals, moisturizing fatty-acids, and hair-building proteins to give your hair everything it needs for success, a list so long that it would be hard to look at it all here. The humble yet time-honored chicken egg is loaded with healthy fats, which help replenish moisture and make strands look sleek and shiny. And because hair is 80% protein, applying protein-rich eggs to hair can help replace the protein lost through styling, making hair stronger and better able to stand up to heat. Some natural beauty proponents claim that applying egg yolks to the hair and scalp can stimulate hair growth. Egg yolk is rich in the vitamins that may make hair more resistant to damage. The yolk is especially useful to moisturize hair that appears dry.  Egg yolks can nourish, strengthen and heal weak hair strands. If eggs can grow a whole baby chicken, then they can certainly help to grow your hair!

Lard

Pasture-Raised, Pure, Hand-Rendered USA Lard feeds your hair and skin extra-nourishing balanced fatty acids and the world’s highest Vitamin D3 content, second only to cod liver oil. Lard has been used in haircare since medieval times for hair growth and hair health management. Our lard is carefully hand-rendered to keep its precious rare nutrients in-tact.
Lard is the 2nd fat in the world that is highest in Vitamin D3, second only to cod liver oil! Vitamin D3 is the most bioavailable form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D delivers a myriad of health benefits, including supporting healthy, long hair. As it turns out, Vitamin D3 is involved in various signaling pathways in the hair follicle and has a direct (and critical) role in the hair growth (aka anagen) phase. Topical application of vitamin D3 has been shown to render protection against damage caused to the skin by UV light. Vitamin D reduces cell death, promotes cell survival, and reduces redness and inflammation.
Since pasture-raised lard is lighter and softer in texture, slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, and higher in certain nutrients like Vitamin D3 – it makes a perfect fat base in our shampoo soaps, conditioners, and hair oils.
Pasture-Raised, properly fed lard is low on the comedogenic scale: it will not clog pores nor cause inflammation, in fact it may help with those issues. Since it is slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, it provides a more bubbly lather and a squeakier clean.
Our Lard is:
  • Slowly and carefully hand-rendered in our facility from the farm-fresh raw source
  • NEVER bleached or ultra-processed for a “white look”
  • Pasture-Raised from LOCAL and USA small family farms

Buttermilk

Local, Raw, Farm-Fresh, Grass-fed, Hand-Cultured Buttermilk to feed your hair the perfect food – high in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fatty acids. Full-fat Jersey cow buttermilk is higher than goat milk in lactic acid and has the same moisturization content. The famously beautiful Egyptian Queen Cleopatra was a wise proponent, bathing in fresh buttermilk daily.
Buttermilk is high in multiple different proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Farm-fresh, raw buttermilk can have dozens of naturally occurring probiotics along with alpha-hydroxy acids like lactic acid, which promote cell renewal and rejuvenation of beauty factors such as brightness, tone, and complexion maintenance. Milk is considered a “complete protein” and “near-perfect food” meaning it contains all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for your body to function at an optimal level, plus all the essential Omega 3, 6, & 9 fatty acids in balanced proportions in addition to most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. And buttermilk is even better! If raw milk can grow a baby calf into a cow within a few months, think of what it does to your hair!
Our Buttermilk is:
  • Slowly and carefully hand-cultured from the farm-fresh raw source
  • When the farm-fresh raw buttermilk arrives in our facility, it is frozen and used first-in, first-out to ensure the best nutrient content
  • Grass-Fed and Pasture-Raised from LOCAL small family farms

Babassu Oil

Certified Organic Babassu Oil provides an extra foamy lather to build mounds of thick bubbles. This makes cleansing your hair an easier task without using pore-clogging palm or coconut oils. Babassu oil also helps maintain the hardness of your shampoo soap while in use and makes the bar last as long as possible in wet environments.

Olive Oil

Certified Organic, Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has been used for thousands of years to make the best soaps in the world and is one of the major components of our shampoo bars. Olive oil provides a rich, smooth, silky shine to hair shafts while also retaining a mild, gentle cleanse. Olive oil is unique in that it’s very moisturizing, but not heavy.

Castor Oil

Certified Organic, Hexane-Free Castor Oil has been used for centuries to help heal damaged skin while also restoring new hair growth.* Also known as the “Palm of Christ”, its many priceless uses have yet to be overshadowed by any other known oil. Castor oil also helps to provide a thick, robust, and stable lather, while additionally strengthening the hair shafts and reducing split ends.

Jojoba Oil

Certified Organic Golden Jojoba Oil is actually a type of liquid plant wax that is claimed to be very similar to our skin’s sebum, providing a light moisturization without clogging pores. Jojoba oil has been very useful for haircare professionals, lending extra shine, strength, and manageability to hair health.

Abyssinian Oil

Abyssinian Oil is very similar to Argan oil but shown to be better in some ways. From multiple scientific studies, Abyssinian oil has been shown to provide superior protection against hair breakage and heat damage in professional salon settings. Shine and manageability are also markedly improved when incorporating Abyssinian oil into one’s haircare routine.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin Clay helps detox your hair from the daily grime and air pollution from modern day living while also soothing and nourishing the scalp with trace minerals. This natural earthen clay assists with dandruff and encourages hair growth as well. For shaving, it lends an extra silky-smooth experience, but if a nick does occur – it helps stop and repair bleeding quickly. Just lather our soap on the area you need to shave and shave as you would normally (full shaving directions here).

NO SCENT OF ANY KIND WAS ADDED AS AN INGREDIENT TO THIS PRODUCT!

However, this product was made in our one and only facility where we manufacture all of our products (scented and unscented). Therefore, atmospheric scent may or may not transfer over at a detectable level to any unscented product.

We take every precaution possible to reduce surface-level atmospheric scent transfers by:

  • Using extra manufacturing tools ONLY for unscented products.
  • Our “unscented” manufacturing tools are stored in completely separate containers.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing ALL manufacturing tools and surfaces between each batch.
  • NEVER letting our unscented products touch our scented products (either directly or indirectly)!

Please keep in mind that our shipping supplies are stored in our same small business facility where we make scented products, so they may have an atmospheric scent transfer.

If any atmospheric scent is detected by sensitive buyers, we recommend to allow the atmospheric scent transfer to dissipate:

  1.  Remove the unscented products from all shipping materials and any materials around the product.
  2.  Let the unscented product sit out naked (for a few days to a few weeks) in a dry atmosphere devoid of any scent with good air flow.
  3.  Once you start using the unscented product, even the most sensitive users may not notice the surface-level atmospheric scent transfer disappears.

Best By Date: August 5th, 2028

Store in a room-temperature, dry place out of direct sunlight.

We recommend using within 1 year of first use for best results, as scents and contents fade and break down faster over time once disturbed.

SHAVING: Please read our detailed instructions by clicking here.

  • Hair Growth – Our shampoo bars tend to cause faster and thicker hair growth. As a side-effect, more frequent root colorings/treatments may be needed for colored/treated hair.
  • Colored & Treated Hair – Our shampoo bars tend to have no effect on the shade of permanently colored hair or texture treatments. However, semi or demi-permanent hair-colorings or texture treatments can wash out faster due to the vigorous washing method required for a natural shampoo soap lather. We ask you to weigh your priority of healthier, thicker and faster-growing hair with your semi-permanent hair treatments. Please consider a more permanent hair color shade if you do need to color your hair.
  • More Curly/Textured Hair – Our shampoo bars are sulfate-free and totally natural, therefore they will strengthen the natural disulfide bonds in your hair, which will bring out your natural hair texture. Your natural hair texture usually has more volume, curl/texture, and definition than what you were getting with detergent or surfactant shampoo products.
  • It often takes more time and effort to use natural shampoo bars, but it’s well worth it in the end. Not only do you end up with more naturally nourished hair, you also end up with a cleaner environment!

On average, 1 shampoo soap will last most experienced users around 2 weeks of daily use, or about 14 hair washes on average.

Hair length, thickness, texture, and level of oil/grease/dirt to cleanse will affect this number. The longer, thicker, dirtier, and more textured your hair is, the more you will need to apply for a good wash. Another factor that will affect duration is if one is using the bar for more than just hair washing: for example, as a body soap and as a shaving soap in addition to a shampoo.
When you first start using shampoo soaps you will go through them a lot faster than after you adjust – this is due to the detox/adjustment period for most beginners. Here is an article about this if you are interested: https://perma-earth.com/shampoo-soap-detox-for-beginners/
Another beginner’s adjustment is not properly washing (not applying and lathering enough), which causes soap residue in certain places and feels much like the detox symptoms. Here is our article about how to wash properly: https://perma-earth.com/directions/soap-directions/

  1. Samis

I am not affiliated in any way, this is my unbiased review and opinion.

This particular one works well for everyone’s hair in the household / from baby fine hair to course wavy hair.
It leaves behind a fresh clean scent, smells clean, but not overpowering at all.

Hair is left shiny and silky (w addition of conditioner to help brush through tangles).

The bars are tricky to use at first to get the correct lather. But with plenty of practice and a phone call to permaearth, we finally got it down!

  2. josslin.roma

After reading all about the “adjustment period”, I was very apprehensive about trying this shampoo but I wanted something more natural, eco-friendly and I wanted the results that bottled shampoo always claim to create but don’t. I bought the unscented Egg Yolk All-In-One bar and the Honey Almond conditioner bar, carefully read the instructions on the website, watched the how to video on the website and followed the instructions to a T, and I was blown away after just ONE wash!! No adjustment period at all and my hair felt so incredibly clean, moisturized and no frizz. After just one week, I can go 3 days without washing my hair and I’ve never been able to do that in my life. I highly recommend these bars. Also, watching the tutorial is a MUST!

  3. d.greenwood432

I absolutely Love this product! I can`t use anything else in my hair without it not looking right! This is by far the best soap I`ve found, and I will definitely keep ordering!
The egg yolk just makes my hair so soft without the mess of putting egg yolk in my hair. Also love the smell and how natural it is!! such a great product.

  4. Melissa Babiak

The idea of using egg yolks in the bar shampoo is brilliant. Eggs are truly a super food and this is just another great way to absorb their nutrients! I have tried washing my hair with real egg yolks and this is a great alternative because it’s way less messy. My hair feels so bouncy and healthy after using this one in particular. Will be buying again!

  5. stephanie.chica.scott

I’ve used this bar on both myself and my 1 year old and it works really well on our dry skin. I find this bar very nourishing for shaving since it’s packed with moisturizing ingredients. I like a lot of the scented options perma earth offers but some days it’s nice to have an unscented option. APPROVED

  6. Thomas Knueppel

my husband and i both think this bar was great for our hair, for all of the benefits of egg yolk. it left our hair soft, nourished, and so healthy looking and feeling. it also feels amazing as a body soap bar, with a great lather.

  7. brianna gomes

this is only my first shampoo bar but just after 2 weeks i am loving the condition of my hair so far! do not let these bars discourage you! get your hair wet and lather quick & throughly, putting the bar directly on your hair if needed. you may have more product buildup if you have always used over the counter detergent hair products. natural is always the way to go, keep going APPROVED

  8. niella

I’ve bought two of these, gave one to my mom. First purchases ever from PE! I heard about PE through Lillie Kane on YT!
I’ve used milk soap in the past but never lard soap. It’s not even that strong of a scent but TBH, I initially was put off a bit by the lardy smell. Now I like it!
So far I can report that it does an amazing job of cleaning my hair. It’s not drying (dandruff/dry scalp and slight hair fallout are my main concerns), nor does it leave a film. It’s super easy to use, lathers perfectly. My hair smells like nothing after washing it out.
My mom loved it too (she didn’t mind the smell at all when I first gave it to her, simply said it smelled “natural”)! I am definitely buying more!!

  9. laura_schneider88

I loooove this bar! It lathers so nicely and leaves my hair feeling so clean. I didn’t really have any adjustment period like other people talk about, thankfully. My hair feels great with these products!

  10. Jessica Tonka

It was a little bit of an adjustment getting used to using a bar shampoo but now I love it. So glad I found Perma Earth. It has been a real challenge trying to find a shampoo with clean ingredients that actually works. This shampoo is amazing. My hair is softer and healthier and less oily in between washes. My scalp seems to be getting better too. I also love that I can also use it for shaving and washing. I definitely prefer the unscented as the fragranced ones are too strong for me. I can say that the fragranced ones don’t bother me like other fragrances but it’s still too much for me. But great product. Definitely recommend.

  11. Charis Bombela

I loved this bar. The slight scent it gives off is hard to describe but it’s not a bad smell like you’d expect. Overall great product and I love the egg yolk variation! Kept my hair looking healthy and great!

  12. Erika Ebent

This bar has been my favorite so far for my hair! I think the added egg makes it lather more!? Like all the bars I’ve tried, this brings my curls to life, and moisturizes my extremely dry hair.

  13. Ariel Penny

I noticed some of the other bars would create a tingling, almost stinging sensation on my skin, probably because my scalp was so sensitive that it couldn’t handle any additional fragrances. But that is not an issue with this bar! It has been gentle, and while my dandruff isn’t completely gone, I have noticed improvements in the time since I began using it. And for the scent – the bar itself had a slight smell (it’s made of egg, lard, etc. so…of course!), but there is no scent on your skin/hair during or after use.
