Egg Yolk
Raw, Pasture-Raised, Free-Range, Organic-Fed, Local Egg Yolk nourishes your hair with superfood benefits. Egg yolks have an abundance of healthy vitamins, necessary minerals, moisturizing fatty-acids, and hair-building proteins to give your hair everything it needs for success, a list so long that it would be hard to look at it all here. The humble yet time-honored chicken egg is loaded with healthy fats, which help replenish moisture and make strands look sleek and shiny. And because hair is 80% protein, applying protein-rich eggs to hair can help replace the protein lost through styling, making hair stronger and better able to stand up to heat. Some natural beauty proponents claim that applying egg yolks to the hair and scalp can stimulate hair growth. Egg yolk is rich in the vitamins that may make hair more resistant to damage. The yolk is especially useful to moisturize hair that appears dry. Egg yolks can nourish, strengthen and heal weak hair strands. If eggs can grow a whole baby chicken, then they can certainly help to grow your hair!
Honey
Raw, local, real honey – honored since ancient times as a priceless health food, as well as an irreplaceable ingredient for hair and skin care products. Honey has emollient (moisturizing) and humectant (moisture-drawing) properties that add hydration to the hair follicles. This naturally smooths the hair shaft and restores shine and luster to frizzy, dry, curly, or dull hair. Its natural humectant properties seal in moisture to prevent future moisture loss, which is also helpful for itchiness, dryness, and dandruff on the scalp.* Honey is a natural softener, which makes it a superpower ingredient in any hair elixir. Honey also naturally contains antioxidants and nutrients that improve your hair and scalp’s overall wellness, strengthening your hair and encouraging growth.* Honey is especially good for dry, curly, frizz-prone hair. Aside from moisturizing, honey also harbors anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which help fight the bacteria and fungus that cause dandruff. Using a honey formula on your hair and scalp can actually help clear scaling and itching when applied regularly.* Its extra-moisturizing nature must be taken into consideration by oily hair-types or hair that is weighed down easily – we absolutely do not skimp on this incredible ingredient used abundantly in this formula.
Derived from the seed kernel of the Avena sativa, or oat plant, oat oil is gaining popularity in hair products for its ability to provide dense nutrition with a lightweight consistency. Often aimed to reduce inflammation and provide soothing hydration, oat oil has many hair and skin uses. Many scalp conditions involve a combination of dryness and irritation, so it’s easy to see why oat oil is especially useful in these instances. Oat oil is a great hydrator and anti-inflammatory agent, its main benefits include soothing the scalp, hydrating the hair and scalp, and improving the elasticity of hair strands. In general, oat oil is great for curly, dry, coarse, frizzy, or damaged hair. Those with dry scalp conditions will also benefit from the nourishment and hydration of oat oil.
Pasture-Raised, Pure, Hand-Rendered USA Lard feeds your hair and skin extra-nourishing balanced fatty acids and the world’s highest Vitamin D3 content, second only to cod liver oil. Lard has been used in haircare since medieval times for hair growth and hair health management. Our lard is carefully hand-rendered to keep its precious rare nutrients in-tact.
Lard is the 2nd fat in the world that is highest is Vitamin D3, second only to cod liver oil! Vitamin D3 is the most bioavailable form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D delivers a myriad of health benefits, including supporting healthy, long hair. As it turns out, Vitamin D3 is involved in various signaling pathways in the hair follicle and has a direct (and critical) role in the hair growth (aka anagen) phase. Topical application of vitamin D3 has been shown to render protection against damage caused to the skin by UV light. Vitamin D reduces cell death, promotes cell survival, and reduces redness and inflammation.
Since pasture-raised lard is lighter and softer in texture, slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, and higher in certain nutrients like Vitamin D3 – it makes a perfect fat base in our shampoo soaps, conditioners, and hair oils.
Pasture-Raised, properly fed lard is low on the comedogenic scale: it will not clog pores nor cause inflammation, in fact it may help with those issues. Since it is slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, it provides a more bubbly lather and a squeakier clean.
Our Lard is:
-
Slowly and carefully hand-rendered in our facility from the farm-fresh raw source
-
NEVER bleached or ultra-processed for a “white look”
-
Pasture-Raised from LOCAL and USA small family farms

Local, Raw, Farm-Fresh, Grass-fed, Hand-Cultured Buttermilk to feed your hair the perfect food – high in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fatty acids. Full-fat Jersey cow buttermilk is higher than goat milk in lactic acid and has the same moisturization content. The famously beautiful Egyptian Queen Cleopatra was a wise proponent, bathing in fresh buttermilk daily.
Buttermilk is high in multiple different proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Farm-fresh, raw buttermilk can have dozens of naturally occurring probiotics along with alpha-hydroxy acids like lactic acid, which promote cell renewal and rejuvenation of beauty factors such as brightness, tone, and complexion maintenance. Milk is considered a “complete protein” and “near-perfect food” meaning it contains all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for your body to function at an optimal level, plus all the essential Omega 3, 6, & 9 fatty acids in balanced proportions in addition to most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. And buttermilk is even better! If raw milk can grow a baby calf into a cow within a few months, think of what it does to your hair!
Our Buttermilk is:
-
Slowly and carefully hand-cultured from the farm-fresh raw source
-
When the farm-fresh raw buttermilk arrives in our facility, it is frozen and used first-in, first-out to ensure the best nutrient content

Certified Organic Babassu Oil provides an extra foamy lather to build mounds of thick bubbles. This makes cleansing your hair an easier task without using pore-clogging palm or coconut oils. Babassu oil also helps maintain the hardness of your shampoo soap while in use and makes the bar last as long as possible in wet environments.
Certified Organic, Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has been used for thousands of years to make the best soaps in the world and is one of the major components of our shampoo bars. Olive oil provides a rich, smooth, silky shine to hair shafts while also retaining a mild, gentle cleanse. Olive oil is unique in that it’s very moisturizing, but not heavy.
Certified Organic, Hexane-Free Castor Oil has been used for centuries to help heal damaged skin while also restoring new hair growth.* Also known as the “Palm of Christ”, its many priceless uses have yet to be overshadowed by any other known oil. Castor oil also helps to provide a thick, robust, and stable lather, while additionally strengthening the hair shafts and reducing split ends.
Certified Organic Golden Jojoba Oil is actually a type of liquid plant wax that is claimed to be very similar to our skin’s sebum, providing a light moisturization without clogging pores. Jojoba oil has been very useful for haircare professionals, lending extra shine, strength, and manageability to hair health.
Abyssinian Oil is very similar to Argan oil but shown to be better in some ways. From multiple scientific studies, Abyssinian oil has been shown to provide superior protection against hair breakage and heat damage in professional salon settings. Shine and manageability are also markedly improved when incorporating Abyssinian oil into one’s haircare routine.
Kaolin Clay helps detox your hair from the daily grime and air pollution from modern day living while also soothing and nourishing the scalp with trace minerals. This natural earthen clay assists with dandruff and encourages hair growth as well. For shaving, it lends an extra silky-smooth experience, but if a nick does occur – it helps stop and repair bleeding quickly. Just lather our soap on the area you need to shave and shave as you would normally (full shaving directions here).
Pure and therapeutic-grade Essential Oils are included for a more natural scent and some therapeutic benefits. Please keep in mind that not including fragrances will reduce the scent hold, decreasing the linger time and strength compared to what many are used to with store-bought products. Learn more about our essential oils we use HERE and read about this product’s scent and scent strength in the product’s scent tab.

This curly hair shampoo bar works wonders! The blend of natural ingredients like Babassu oil, buttermilk, and essential oils has left my curls feeling clean, nourished, and bouncy. It’s a game-changer and deserves every bit of 5 stars!

This bar was a favorite, very light but cleansing, little to no scent in my opinion. However the scent it did have was pleasant. Haven’t tried a bar from this company that my hair doesn’t like (shoulder length, fine curls). I pair them all with my coconut conditioner (liquid form) it’s lasted me more than half a year and I still have so much!

Hair profile:
Thick, fine, slight wave, medium length. I only use shampoo on my scalp, conditioner on the ends, and occasionally Argan or Jojoba oil on the ends if they feel dry. I don’t use any heat and only wash my hair 1-2 times per week. I already use natural shampoo bars, but wanted to try something new and the good reviews swayed me.
Overall Experience:
I used this shampoo for a week, re-read and followed the guides, and reached out to customer service when I ran into hiccups.
I tested this product for a week, about 10 washes, and experienced the “detox” symptoms, although the localized area of the waxiness and the fact that it went away once I got the lather right makes me think it’s less of a detox period and more of a learning curve to get all the shampoo out. It took me about a week of daily washes to figure out how much shampoo (a lot) and lathering (a LOT) to get the right amount of foam. I could definitely tell when I finally got the lather right.
I wanted to test the claims of this shampoo (“one of the most nourishing shampoo bars you will ever find!” and “when dry, your hair turns soft and manageable”) on its own merit so I tried it it without conditioner. The how-to guides claimed “Our shampoo soaps will work great for any hair texture and thickness!” And “Thinner/straighter hair types might need less conditioner or maybe even no conditioner at all since it may weigh their hair down too much.” So I thought I was fairly safe trying the shampoo alone.
It did get my hair clean (although it didn’t feel any softer or better than with my other shampoos) once I figured out the right amount of lather to get enough foam.
The reason for the low rating and why I gave up on this shampoo is because my hair was an unbelievable matted mess after lathering the shampoo enough to avoid the waxy feeling if you lather wrong and don’t get all the shampoo out.
Not tangled—matted. Everywhere, but especially around my scalp.
I let my hair dry hoping it would get better, but brushing out my hair was so painful and damaging that any benefit it might have gotten from the shampoo was quickly undone by trying to get the mats out.
I reached out to customer support when I initially experienced the waxiness (they were very helpful), and after the matting issue, for which they recommended buying their conditioner. I was willing to put up with waxy hair through the “detox” period, but the matting was closer to my scalp than I would have wanted to use conditioner, and there was no way I was going to put my hair through that again, even to find out if a conditioner might help. I didn’t find that there were enough benefits of this shampoo over any others I was using that would make further time, money, and troubleshooting worth it.
My other problem with this shampoo is the cost. $15 for a shampoo bar—not bad, except their guide says “most experienced users go through 2 shampoo soaps within 30 days on average.” $1/day is a lot for a shampoo bar when $20 bars from other brands last me 6 months.
The scent also reminded me vaguely of paint fumes while I was using it. This went away slightly after my hair was dried, although I still didn’t really like the smell.
I almost didn’t leave a review because it sounds like people have had good results and to their credit, the company tries really hard to help people learn how to use the shampoo correctly, but with all my research I saw nothing about matting—only a warning that “After a wash, your wet hair will feel squeaky clean, almost unmanageable and tangles easily. BUT when dry, your hair turns soft and manageable.” This is my experience with other shampoo bars, but not this one.
If you have thick, fine hair like mine, I would not recommend this shampoo.

Hi Sarah, this really sounds like a washing technique issue with soap residue, which we cover in our detox page saying that the two seem very similar. It also sounds like the “natural shampoo bars” you were using before were syndet bars (synthetic detergent) this is completely different from natural SOAP shampoo bars. You are always welcome to reach out to us again so we can help you troubleshoot what else could be going on, we always leave that option open for those having difficulties switching from chemical poos to traditional shampoo soaps. “High quality” salon shampoos coat upwards of $30-$50 per month, not even considering all of the other products one may need to compensate for what those chemical poos lack. We understand that natural shampoo soaps need a lot of patience and trial and error and experimentation for new users, but if having healthier hair in the long run is not worth it for one personally, of course that is everyone’s decision. However, our shampoo soaps will and do work for all hair types for those willing to figure out how to properly wash their hair. Thanks for your feedback on the frustrations one can experience though in the learning process. Again, we would be happy to help again if you are considering real shampoo soaps again.

Hi there, we think this was definitely a beginner’s adjustment issue that is remedied by improving the washing technique: apply more soap and lather more. Please review our updated directions (more visuals) and also give us a call – sometimes it is better troubleshooting verbally than over text. We wish we could have helped you more if you would have followed up with us. Our shampoo soaps are not like syndet bars that you are referring to as $20 for 6 months of use – that is not how real soap behaves, and they are not nearly as nourishing.
Just wanted to make sure you received our reply as I do not see our initial reply here! -Mariah and team

After the original, unscented soap bar took about 8-10 days of detoxing, I purchased this one. This soap bar took some detoxing, too. I had been using Acure Shampoo and Conditioner, so it was “clean”, but I still didn’t like all the ingredients. They changed their formula and it caused dandruff in my husband and caused buildup in my hair. My hair became greasy, flat, and my curls were essentially nonexistent. I had to wash my hair daily. The detox period took about 8-10 days. It definitely helped when I purchased the conditioner bar. I can’t go more than 2-3 days without washing, but that may just be my hair and natural oil buildup. My natural curls have come back and my hair looks more vibrant than ever. My hair hasn’t been so soft in years and I love that the product is animal-based.

I love this shampoo bar (as with every perma earth bar I’ve tried so far). It smells great, lathers up well, and leaves my hair feeling really clean. Thanks for another great product! APPROVED
