Shea Butter

Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp is a member of the Cannabis sativa species of plant. You may have heard this plant referred to as marijuana, but our Certified Organic, Extra-Virgin, Unrefined, Food-Grade Hemp Seed Oil is really a different variety of Cannabis sativa. Hemp seed oil is a clear green oil made by cold-pressing hemp seeds. It’s different from cannabidiol (CBD), which is an extract produced from hemp flowers and leaves. Hemp seed oil typically doesn’t contain the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which provides the “high” associated with marijuana use. Hemp seed oil, while not containing CBD or THC, is said to have many health benefits, among them that it protects hair from damage while helping to moisturize, strengthen, and assist hair in growth.
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are considered by experts to be good for hair when taken as an oral supplement and hemp seed oil has plenty of both. For example, a 2015 study found improvement in the hair diameter and hair density of participants who took omega-3 and omega-6 oral supplements over the course of six months. Researchers on the study also discovered that omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in combination with antioxidants prevented hair loss in participants who took them.
Cetearyl Alcohol
Our pure and fatty Cetearyl Alcohol is derived from nature and is a necessary ingredient in conditioners for its degreasing properties and water-solubility. Cetearyl alcohol isn’t “bad” for you, your skin, or your hair. Most importantly, cetearyl alcohol is very different from “regular” alcohols, like ethanol. It’s a white, waxy mixture of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, both fatty alcohols. These naturally-occurring chemical compounds are just like those found in animals and plants while being very safe for people and planet.
BTMS
BTMS is an ionized salt derived from nature and is an absolute necessary ingredient for making natural conditioner. BTMS is the acronym for the long scientific name of the compound “Behentrimonium Methosulfate” however, BTMS is NOT a sulfate and is very environmentally friendly. This ingredient is irreplaceable for a powdery-smooth conditioning finish, instead of a heavy, oily, or greasy feel. It is an effective emulsifier, making our natural conditioner more water-soluble and silky-smooth to the touch.

For the conditioning effects most of us are used to with commercial conditioners, BTMS is the most natural way for us to achieve this effect! If you would like to avoid this ingredient for a more natural option (but not as effective or convenient), just use straight jojoba oil (or another moisturizing fat) on hair ends before shampooing with our shampoo bars. Our hair oil is available here as the more natural alternative. Other alternatives include herbal hair tea rinses, apple cider vinegar water rinses, or witch hazel water rinses after shampooing.
USA Organic Beeswax
Our conditioner bar formula does NOT make hair waxy, but instead softer, more moisturized, and strengthened with the use of USA Certified Organic Beeswax. Beeswax keeps moisture locked inside the strands and seals the shafts to decrease frizz while promoting better shine and hair management. A 2016 study found that a hair product containing beeswax significantly increased hair length after daily use for 30 days. Beeswax can have a positive effect on the scalp, too. Research has shown beeswax may help soothe symptoms of scalp conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and dandruff. This ingredient also makes our conditioner bars harder and more durable, even in hotter temperatures and more humid climates.

I have been trying “natural” shampoo and conditioners for awhile now to find one that works, and right when I was thinking of going back to toxic conditioners I discovered this and my mind is blown. This by far the best conditioner I’ve ever used! My hair has always tended to be more oily, so finding the “right” conditioner has been a lifelong quest. Well, happy to say I’ve found it! I only use it as needed, and only on the ends. It sits on my counter, not in the shower so it won’t melt. This will last me a long time I think.

This conditioner does what it’s supposed to (softens and detangles), but the actual execution of using the bar is cumbersome. I have very dense hair and it’s hard to get it into the actual length of my hair versus just over the outer layer. I tried out the 1.75 oz bar instead of turning it into liquid conditioner because I’d read that it was less likely to weigh down fine hair, but I have to work so much of it into my hair to get it to actually distribute that I think it negates the lightness of it.
Also this is totally subjective and probably just a ‘my hands are tiny’ problem but it’s very difficult to actually maintain a grip on the bar while trying to manage moving my hair around too. I dropped this thing at least 5 times every time I showered. Another reason why if I order the conditioner bar again, I’ll be converting it to liquid.
I also have sensitive skin and I found this irritated the back of my neck slightly just with the greasiness of it (but most conditioners do this to me, not just this bar, though it doesn’t rinse off skin well).

I usually like scented everything, but am trying to save money and went with this one this time. I have infused herbs and made a liquid conditioner and it has turned out great. I cut and measure out enough to make one small bottle at a time so I don’t have to worry about it going bad. This last time I didn’t even add any essential oils because I like the smell of the bar by itself. I have wavy thick hair so I rinse out a little bit because getting my hair soaked helps me to be able to comb through it in the shower.

I bought a sample size of this product because I have fine curls and often times my hair becomes weighted and oily with conditioners. This stuff is wonderful! It was super easy to use after reading their instructions online. I am absolutely going to buy the full size version. I normally use their scented bars for my hair and the scent shines through the unscented conditioner bar-to-liquid. However the lack of added scent did not bother me at all! The natural smells are soft and pleasant. My curls are tight, hydrated, and happy without feeling greasy or heavy.

If you follow the directions with the shampoo bars and conditioner it will work. I have 3c/4a combo curly AA hair. I first started using the bar straight and then decided to create a liquid and add stuff to it as I created my own set back by putting some organic plants on my head that my scalp said, “O no, no, no, no, no, no Sis… What is you doing…?” So I’m back to getting my hair to stop falling out and using these to do it. I really love this conditioner. I have straight, fine, medium length hair and I mostly just use it on the ends of my hair. It doesn’t weigh my hair down which can be an issue. I actually use so little that the bars last forever but I still definitely have to use it after the shampoo or I would end up with some tangles.

I didn’t think I liked the conditioner bar at first. This was the first I had ever used and I suppose there was a learning curve. I used it a couple of times, thought my hair became frizzier and put it away, returning to an old conditioner that I relied on, but didn’t love because of some sketchy ingredients. When that bottle ran out, I turned to the conditioner bar I had shelved, but this time I really took my time with the application of it.
I have waist-length hair, so it can take a while to get this thoroughly applied. Since I have become used to correctly applying this, it has done wonders for my hair. It is softer and certainly less frizzy. I don’t know if it can be attributed to just this bar (and the shampoos as well), but the texture of my hair has also changed! My hair used to be pretty straight, but now dries with waves and even some curls.
I am also exceedingly grateful for unscented hair products, which can be so hard to find! It can be difficult to use as the bar gets down to the end, but I suppose there’s no getting around that. Otherwise, I have no complaints and highly recommend this bar!

These reviews help us improve our creations and also gives us great motivation 🙂 What to do about the conditioner bits: you can create a great liquid conditioner! Boil a liquid (water, tea, aloe vera juice, your choice!) and remove from heat. Add conditioner bar in a 6:1 ratio liquid to bar bits. Stir until dissolved. Keep stirring occasionally until cooled completely. Store and use within 2 weeks. Refrigerate for use up to 4 weeks. We also have this in our conditioner bar directions for future reference 🙂 -Mariah

This review is for the Apple Rose, the scent is amazing. But sadly after a few uses it started to make my hair feel stringy. I also use the Honey Amber and LOVE it. In comparison the Apple Rose doesn’t seem to moisturize as well as the Honey Amber. After chatting with Mariah we wondered if it was the apple fragrance, since the apple cider shampoo bar gave me the same result. Either way, despite the smell being awesome I think my hair just doesn’t like apple lol. I love the conditioner bars though! I’ll never go back to store bought shampoo or conditioner.

These conditioner bars are a MUST HAVE. They make your hair feel silky soft, and i just love the texture all around. I often use it on my skin after cleansing and I leaves my skin so soft. I also sometimes use it as leave in conditioner. Its so versatile! No doubt in my mind that this is the best conditioner I’ve ever used. I have wavy/curly hair and generally you want your hair to air dry without being brushed to keep the waves frizz free. I’ve never had the patience for that. With this bar, I’ve brushed my hair after a shower and gone to bed with it wet and I wake up with frizz free curls, no bed head, volume and it’s SOFT. I can’t get over it. The shampoos are amazing but I think the conditioner is what seals the deal.
