For Dry, Damaged, Thinning, and Frizzy Hair Types

Experience true food for your hair and skin with real, nutrient-dense, traditionally handcrafted soap made with old-fashioned ingredients. Our artisanal shampoo soaps are handmade with carefully curated local, grass-fed, pasture-raised, and organic ingredients – proudly sourced from small family farms and homegrown here in the USA. What we can’t source locally, we seek the highest quality: certified organic, minimally processed, and fair-trade ingredients to feed your hair and skin from the outside-in. No detergents or surfactants are used in any of our shampoos.
When washing properly, our basic unscented formula is suitable for all hair types used as-needed with an optional conditioner. Some scents and additional ingredients on top of our basic formula may alter results for each individual.

Top 3 Tips for Beginners:

  1. Please keep in mind that scent information in this product’s scent tab is based on majority feedback.
  2. Beginners, we recommend trying our unscented shampoo soaps first for the freshest, cleanest, and most simple start. Beginners will also want to educate themselves on the possibility of a short detox period and the correct washing technique.
  3. Our All-In-One Shampoo – Body – Shaving soap bars are also suitable for regular body washing, face washing (facial soap directions here), and shaving (shaving directions here). Our ingredients are LOW on the comedogenic scale – so your pores are nourished and cleansed, but never clogged.

Ingredient Details (read full ingredients list in this product’s ingredients tab)

Hyaluronic Acid

We know hyaluronic acid as the ingredient responsible for hydrating and temporarily plumping up the skin to lessen the appearance of superfine lines—but did you know that it could benefit your hair as well? Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in your body although it can also be made synthetically. As a humectant, it can retain moisture and bind approximately 1000 times its weight in water. Hyaluronic acid production in the body dramatically decreases as we age, causing many skin and scalp issues such as dryness, dandruff, wrinkles, etc. As a humectant, hyaluronic acid hydrates the hair and scalp and reduces frizz. Humectant molecules attract and bind moisture to the skin, allowing collagen to thrive in the skin and scalp.  Dry, damaged hair does not easily retain water, but hyaluronic acid helps to fill in the cracks of the porous hair shaft and moisturize. All hair types and textures could benefit from using any hyaluronic acid-based products on their hair fibers. This ingredient’s ability to bind to moisture helps hair retain the proper balance of lipids, humectants, and proteins required for hair strength and elasticity. This is especially great for dry, frizzy, and damaged hair types.

Aloe Vera Juice

Certified Organic Aloe Vera Juice has many active ingredients and minerals to strengthen hair: its amino acids, vitamins, and minerals can contribute to healthy hair follicles.* Aloe Vera has enzymes that help break down fatty acids to  cleanse your hair and scalp, assisting with improving dandruff and itchiness.* Aloe Vera contains a special chemical compound called “aloenin” that may improve hair and scalp health while decreasing breakage.*

Agave Extract

Blue Agave extract attracts and retains water, allowing for overall healthier and smoother hair. In addition, Agave also has the ability to deep condition dry and damaged hair, promoting healthy hair strength and elasticity. Our Agave Tequilana Leaf Extract was extracted into a base of caprylic triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil in vegetable glycerin).

Lard

Pasture-Raised, Pure, Hand-Rendered USA Lard feeds your hair and skin extra-nourishing balanced fatty acids and the world’s highest Vitamin D3 content, second only to cod liver oil. Lard has been used in haircare since medieval times for hair growth and hair health management. Our lard is carefully hand-rendered to keep its precious rare nutrients in-tact.
Lard is the 2nd fat in the world that is highest in Vitamin D3, second only to cod liver oil! Vitamin D3 is the most bioavailable form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D delivers a myriad of health benefits, including supporting healthy, long hair. As it turns out, Vitamin D3 is involved in various signaling pathways in the hair follicle and has a direct (and critical) role in the hair growth (aka anagen) phase. Topical application of vitamin D3 has been shown to render protection against damage caused to the skin by UV light. Vitamin D reduces cell death, promotes cell survival, and reduces redness and inflammation.
Since pasture-raised lard is lighter and softer in texture, slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, and higher in certain nutrients like Vitamin D3 – it makes a perfect fat base in our shampoo soaps, conditioners, and hair oils.
Pasture-Raised, properly fed lard is low on the comedogenic scale: it will not clog pores nor cause inflammation, in fact it may help with those issues. Since it is slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, it provides a more bubbly lather and a squeakier clean.
Our Lard is:
  • Slowly and carefully hand-rendered in our facility from the farm-fresh raw source
  • NEVER bleached or ultra-processed for a “white look”
  • Pasture-Raised from LOCAL and USA small family farms

Buttermilk

Local, Raw, Farm-Fresh, Grass-fed, Hand-Cultured Buttermilk to feed your hair the perfect food – high in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fatty acids. Full-fat Jersey cow buttermilk is higher than goat milk in lactic acid and has the same moisturization content. The famously beautiful Egyptian Queen Cleopatra was a wise proponent, bathing in fresh buttermilk daily.
Buttermilk is high in multiple different proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Farm-fresh, raw buttermilk can have dozens of naturally occurring probiotics along with alpha-hydroxy acids like lactic acid, which promote cell renewal and rejuvenation of beauty factors such as brightness, tone, and complexion maintenance. Milk is considered a “complete protein” and “near-perfect food” meaning it contains all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for your body to function at an optimal level, plus all the essential Omega 3, 6, & 9 fatty acids in balanced proportions in addition to most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. And buttermilk is even better! If raw milk can grow a baby calf into a cow within a few months, think of what it does to your hair!
Our Buttermilk is:
  • Slowly and carefully hand-cultured from the farm-fresh raw source
  • When the farm-fresh raw buttermilk arrives in our facility, it is frozen and used first-in, first-out to ensure the best nutrient content
  • Grass-Fed and Pasture-Raised from LOCAL small family farms

Babassu Oil

Certified Organic Babassu Oil provides an extra foamy lather to build mounds of thick bubbles. This makes cleansing your hair an easier task without using pore-clogging palm or coconut oils. Babassu oil also helps maintain the hardness of your shampoo soap while in use and makes the bar last as long as possible in wet environments.

Olive Oil

Certified Organic, Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has been used for thousands of years to make the best soaps in the world and is one of the major components of our shampoo bars. Olive oil provides a rich, smooth, silky shine to hair shafts while also retaining a mild, gentle cleanse. Olive oil is unique in that it’s very moisturizing, but not heavy.

Castor Oil

Certified Organic, Hexane-Free Castor Oil has been used for centuries to help heal damaged skin while also restoring new hair growth.* Also known as the “Palm of Christ”, its many priceless uses have yet to be overshadowed by any other known oil. Castor oil also helps to provide a thick, robust, and stable lather, while additionally strengthening the hair shafts and reducing split ends.

Jojoba Oil

Certified Organic Golden Jojoba Oil is actually a type of liquid plant wax that is claimed to be very similar to our skin’s sebum, providing a light moisturization without clogging pores. Jojoba oil has been very useful for haircare professionals, lending extra shine, strength, and manageability to hair health.

Abyssinian Oil

Abyssinian Oil is very similar to Argan oil but shown to be better in some ways. From multiple scientific studies, Abyssinian oil has been shown to provide superior protection against hair breakage and heat damage in professional salon settings. Shine and manageability are also markedly improved when incorporating Abyssinian oil into one’s haircare routine.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin Clay helps detox your hair from the daily grime and air pollution from modern day living while also soothing and nourishing the scalp with trace minerals. This natural earthen clay assists with dandruff and encourages hair growth as well. For shaving, it lends an extra silky-smooth experience, but if a nick does occur – it helps stop and repair bleeding quickly. Just lather our soap on the area you need to shave and shave as you would normally (full shaving directions here).

Mica Mineral Pigments

A very small amount of Cosmetic-Grade Mica Mineral Pigments helps each soap look unique and attractive in their own special color for a fun experience! This also lessens confusion between other soaps during use. Will not clog pores, or stain surfaces. This is the same main ingredient in natural cosmetic make-ups.

Fragrance Oils

Phthalate-Free and Paraben-Free Fragrance Oils are included for a familiar and comforting scent. Did you know that most body care shoppers make their purchase decisions based solely on scent satisfaction? The olfactory system is directly related to emotions and memories, which is why scents are such an important factor for many. Please keep in mind that not including phthalates and parabens will reduce the scent hold, decreasing the linger time and strength compared to what many are used to with store-bought products. Learn more about our safer fragrance oils HERE and read about this product’s scent and scent strength in the product’s scent tab.

SHAVING: Please read our detailed instructions by clicking here.

  • Hair Growth – Our shampoo bars tend to cause faster and thicker hair growth. As a side-effect, more frequent root colorings/treatments may be needed for colored/treated hair.
  • Colored & Treated Hair – Our shampoo bars tend to have no effect on the shade of permanently colored hair or texture treatments. However, semi or demi-permanent hair-colorings or texture treatments can wash out faster due to the vigorous washing method required for a natural shampoo soap lather. We ask you to weigh your priority of healthier, thicker and faster-growing hair with your semi-permanent hair treatments. Please consider a more permanent hair color shade if you do need to color your hair.
  • More Curly/Textured Hair – Our shampoo bars are sulfate-free and totally natural, therefore they will strengthen the natural disulfide bonds in your hair, which will bring out your natural hair texture. Your natural hair texture usually has more volume, curl/texture, and definition than what you were getting with detergent or surfactant shampoo products.
  • It often takes more time and effort to use natural shampoo bars, but it’s well worth it in the end. Not only do you end up with more naturally nourished hair, you also end up with a cleaner environment!

On average, 1 shampoo soap will last most experienced users around 2 weeks of daily use, or about 14 hair washes on average.

Hair length, thickness, texture, and level of oil/grease/dirt to cleanse will affect this number. The longer, thicker, dirtier, and more textured your hair is, the more you will need to apply for a good wash. Another factor that will affect duration is if one is using the bar for more than just hair washing: for example, as a body soap and as a shaving soap in addition to a shampoo.
When you first start using shampoo soaps you will go through them a lot faster than after you adjust – this is due to the detox/adjustment period for most beginners. Here is an article about this if you are interested: https://perma-earth.com/shampoo-soap-detox-for-beginners/
Another beginner’s adjustment is not properly washing (not applying and lathering enough), which causes soap residue in certain places and feels much like the detox symptoms. Here is our article about how to wash properly: https://perma-earth.com/directions/soap-directions/

This product’s active ingredients can cause temporary skin flushing (redness caused by increased circulation stimulated on the top layer of skin). This is only a temporary effect and the skin will adjust to the application, and with consistent use over time the flushing reaction should reduce. The redness should be minimal and only last minutes. If your redness lasts longer than an hour, stop use, wash off product well, and contact your health provider if necessary.

  1. Bailey Agattas

I love the scent and the way it makes my hair feel so clean, soft, and hydrated. I am disappointed the price jumped so much on these, as I had planned to buy many more, but the price tag is a hindrance for me. APPROVED

    • Perma-Earth

Hi there! The price changed because new ingredients were added, resulting in a different bar with more expensive ingredients but the same scent. We have many other scent choices that are similar to the old price, we recommend our Cactus Flower, Aloe Spa Eucalyptus, or our Green Tea Aloe Vera for the replacement in a lower price. 🙂

  2. Ariel Penny

I’ve been looking for scents that my boyfriend could use and this is another winner. It’s a more neutral, refreshing scent that I could also use if I wanted. His skin is also sensitive, so he liked having the aloe in this bar. He’s seen great results with all the bars I’ve given him to test!

  3. Kristin Oconnor

The smell of this one one is perfect. So crisp, fresh and clean. I love how it makes my whole bathroom smell amazing. My hair had been loving this but then my husband stole it and he loves it. Great for whole family.

  4. Rebecca Black

As you can see this has been getting used. I just wanted to show how nicely its wearing down without breaking into pieces. The scent of this bar is so heavenly. I was specifically looking for something that was strengthening for split ends & this has done a great job. My hair is very long & I highlight it. After using this bar I’ve noticed strength in my long locks & practically zero split ends. I’m sold! LOVE IT.

  5. Alanna G.

It smelled great but I didn’t get to use it because my husband took it during his mini quarantine and used it for both his hair and body… and the whole thing was gone in two weeks!! I asked him if he ate it lol (these bars last a lot longer when used for just hair fyi). I assume he enjoyed using it.

  6. Dana DiGesaro

This was the very first bar that I used which I purchased in a sample size. The smell to me was like a crisp water smell. It smelt so refreshing and my hair definitely felt refreshing. I would definitely purchase again especially now that I’m past the detox phase.
