No detergents or surfactants are used in any of our shampoos.
When washing properly, our basic unscented formula is suitable for all hair types used as-needed with an optional conditioner. Some scents and additional ingredients on top of our basic formula may alter results for each individual.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can support the natural biome of the scalp. It’s known for antimicrobial properties, in the form of acetic acid, and can help break down the buildup of oil and dead skin cells, which helps stave off excess fungal and bacterial growth that can cause major problems like itchiness, dryness, irritation, dandruff, and infection for your scalp. ACV can restore shine and weightlessness to hair while also cleansing and rebuilding scalp health.
As stated above, some dryness can be caused by fungal and bacterial growth, which is the result of a dirty scalp. So, if you have an oily or combination scalp you will most likely benefit from apple cider vinegar. The cleansing capabilities of apple cider vinegar not only get our hair and scalp squeaky clean, but they also help to restore luster and shine to dull tresses. Once again, the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar is the main reason for this benefit: breaking down the accumulation of pore-clogging oils, dead skin cells, and styling products that result in dull, lifeless hair. Say goodbye to grease and hello to happy hair days ahead!
Red Moroccan Clay & Iron
This clay naturally has a high iron oxide content that gives it a characteristic red color, which can help to absorb the excess oils on the hair and scalp. Moroccan Rhassoul Clay is a mineral-rich clay from Morocco of spa quality being extra finely processed and ethically sourced. Use Rhassoul to deeply cleanse skin and hair while not stripping away its natural oils. It also detoxifies, removing impurities, and can clarify hair. Ideal for all hair types and highly recommend for type 3 and type 4 for it’s gentle yet non-drying cleansing properties.
Lard
Pasture-Raised, Pure, Hand-Rendered USA Lard feeds your hair and skin extra-nourishing balanced fatty acids and the world’s highest Vitamin D3 content, second only to cod liver oil. Lard has been used in haircare since medieval times for hair growth and hair health management. Our lard is carefully hand-rendered to keep its precious rare nutrients in-tact.
Lard is the 2nd fat in the world that is highest in Vitamin D3, second only to cod liver oil! Vitamin D3 is the most bioavailable form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D delivers a myriad of health benefits, including supporting healthy, long hair. As it turns out, Vitamin D3 is involved in various signaling pathways in the hair follicle and has a direct (and critical) role in the hair growth (aka anagen) phase. Topical application of vitamin D3 has been shown to render protection against damage caused to the skin by UV light. Vitamin D reduces cell death, promotes cell survival, and reduces redness and inflammation.
Since pasture-raised lard is lighter and softer in texture, slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, and higher in certain nutrients like Vitamin D3 – it makes a perfect fat base in our shampoo soaps, conditioners, and hair oils.
Pasture-Raised, properly fed lard is low on the comedogenic scale: it will not clog pores nor cause inflammation, in fact it may help with those issues. Since it is slightly higher in unsaturated fatty acids, it provides a more bubbly lather and a squeakier clean.
Our Lard is:
-
Slowly and carefully hand-rendered in our facility from the farm-fresh raw source
-
NEVER bleached or ultra-processed for a “white look”
-
Pasture-Raised from LOCAL and USA small family farms

Buttermilk
Local, Raw, Farm-Fresh, Grass-fed, Hand-Cultured Buttermilk to feed your hair the perfect food – high in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fatty acids. Full-fat Jersey cow buttermilk is higher than goat milk in lactic acid and has the same moisturization content. The famously beautiful Egyptian Queen Cleopatra was a wise proponent, bathing in fresh buttermilk daily.
Buttermilk is high in multiple different proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Farm-fresh, raw buttermilk can have dozens of naturally occurring probiotics along with alpha-hydroxy acids like lactic acid, which promote cell renewal and rejuvenation of beauty factors such as brightness, tone, and complexion maintenance. Milk is considered a “complete protein” and “near-perfect food” meaning it contains all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for your body to function at an optimal level, plus all the essential Omega 3, 6, & 9 fatty acids in balanced proportions in addition to most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. And buttermilk is even better! If raw milk can grow a baby calf into a cow within a few months, think of what it does to your hair!
Our Buttermilk is:
-
Slowly and carefully hand-cultured from the farm-fresh raw source
-
When the farm-fresh raw buttermilk arrives in our facility, it is frozen and used first-in, first-out to ensure the best nutrient content

Olive Oil
Certified Organic, Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has been used for thousands of years to make the best soaps in the world and is one of the major components of our shampoo bars. Olive oil provides a rich, smooth, silky shine to hair shafts while also retaining a mild, gentle cleanse. Olive oil is unique in that it’s very moisturizing, but not heavy.
Castor Oil

Castor oil also helps to provide a thick, robust, and stable lather, while additionally strengthening the hair shafts and reducing split ends.
Jojoba Oil
Certified Organic Golden Jojoba Oil is actually a type of liquid plant wax that is claimed to be very similar to our skin’s sebum, providing a light moisturization without clogging pores. Jojoba oil has been very useful for haircare professionals, lending extra shine, strength, and manageability to hair health.
Abyssinian Oil
Abyssinian Oil is very similar to Argan oil but shown to be better in some ways. From multiple scientific studies, Abyssinian oil has been shown to provide superior protection against hair breakage and heat damage in professional salon settings. Shine and manageability are also markedly improved when incorporating Abyssinian oil into one’s haircare routine.
Kaolin Clay
Kaolin Clay helps detox your hair from the daily grime and air pollution from modern day living while also soothing and nourishing the scalp with trace minerals. This natural earthen clay assists with dandruff and encourages hair growth as well. For shaving, it lends an extra silky-smooth experience, but if a nick does occur – it helps stop and repair bleeding quickly. Just lather our soap on the area you need to shave and shave as you would normally (full shaving directions here).
Essential Oils
Pure and therapeutic-grade Essential Oils are included for a more natural scent and some therapeutic benefits. Please keep in mind that not including fragrances will reduce the scent hold, decreasing the linger time and strength compared to what many are used to with store-bought products. Learn more about our essential oils we use HERE and read about this product’s scent and scent strength in the product’s scent tab.
Don’t settle for anything less than the absolute best for your hair and skin

This was my first try at using a shampoo bar (looking to cut back on my impact on Earth) and it has been great! My hair feels deeply clean and the scent is great. You have to lather like the directions say and get all the spots. A little goes a long way as this product produces a lot of lather.

The apple cider vinegar aspect of this shampoo is awesome. I feel like it gives me a nice and clarified feeling after use. My skin also feels great as apple cider vinegar can have some positive benefits when incorporated into skincare routines and I just love how long the bar can last between myself & my partner using it almost daily. Cannot recommend enough.

This apple cider vinegar shampoo bar leaves hair feeling extremely clean. Does not have that pungent scent you’d typically expect from ACV, at least in my opinion. I felt this helped keep oil to a minimum.
elliemae_clampet –
I have dreads and I have to have shampoo that leaves no residue in my hair. I love all their shampoos, they leave no residue, my hair and scalp feel so clean. The apple cider vinegar is one of my go to shampoos from this company.
nicolemballantyne510 –
I was hoping to begin using this to switch from traditional store-bought shampoos to a more chemical-free option. I followed all of the instructions and was glad to not get that dreaded waxy build-up, but overall it still left my hair feeling oily and heavy, and my scalp was pretty itchy. I know everyone is different, but I definitely wanted to give this one a try. After using up this shampoo bar, I switched to the Goat Milk Shampoo bar and it was quite an improvement.
Perma-Earth –
This is exactly why we recommend our Unscented Buttercream or Goat Milk shampoo for beginners 🙂 Please feel free to reach out to our customer service department to maybe see why this formula may not have worked for your hair type since the main difference is the apple cider vinegar and essential oils. We would be glad to help you figure this out!

I was skeptical about it being an all in one bar but I fell in love. Im all for minimal products in my shower and this has done it for me. Im already coming back to buy more!!!

Another wonderful shampoo bar! I love all of their products as far as how well they function but I’m not a fan of the fragranced ones. This was a great option for something other than unscented.
Thedancingcarnivore –
I have been trying different versions of Perma Earths shampoo bars and I haven’t found one I don’t like yet. This one works great, the scent is pretty light and not super noticeable during the day. Love how nourishing all of these bars are, no matter which one you pick, I really don’t think you can go wrong!

The Apple Cider Vinegar Bar has been my 2nd go-to bar after the Miracle Mud. Once my scalp got all cleaned up and detoxified from using the Miracle Mud Bar I started using Apple Cider Vinegar Bar. I feel it has thickened my hair and strengthened it. I have long, fine hair and it would get oily within a day. This has definitely helped diminish that problem.

My Favourite shampoo bar so far! It doesn’t leave my hair with any heavy residue and it’s the easiest bar to transition from liquid shampoo to. Smells good and the lather is lovely. If you’re starting out new to shampoo bars I recommend this one first!
gkb1687 –
This was the first bar I used. I figured it would be a good one for the “detox”. I totally did detox. My hair was waxy for a few weeks but even so it just looked like I had product in my hair so it wasn’t that bad. I liked the smell and I love love how my hair is now. I’ll never be going back to store bought shampoo again! Thank you!
Shannon Andree –
This shampoo bar cleanses beautifully but does not leave my scalp dry. I love it! The smell is actually quite pleasant as well, it doesn’t have a vinegar smell which I was a bit nervous about. I find this particularly helpful if you have water issues, which I occasionally do being in the south. We tend to have heavy water and this shampoo is great for that!

So far this is my favorite Perma Earth shampoo bar! I love ACV. The bar lasts me about 3 months, with me washing my hair 2-3x a week, and on some days double-washing (which makes my hair even more soft!) I also like to follow it up with a distilled water/ACV rinse, which adds some extra shine to my hair.
Charis Bombela –
My hair tends to be oily and this was a great bar for just that. I really feel like the apple cider vinegar gave it an extra deep clean. And I noticed a little more volume to my hair too. Really great for people with fine, oily hair! The scent is nice too and doesn’t smell like vinegar at all. Will definitely buy again.
bryndisbaird –
I loveeee this shampoo bar ! My first ever ! I’m still in the detox period but I can already tell a huge difference. I’m a customer for life!

I bought this without realizing it was for oily hair, but my sister’s hair and scalp tends to be on the oily side so I just gave it to her. She reports that it cleaned her hair and scalp really well and even gave a bit of volume.

This is the second shampoo bar I have used from here and I’ve ordered this one 3 times! Effective in relieving my itchy scalp and dryness I had around the base of neck.

Definitely make sure you follow the instructions! If you do, this will clean your hair better than any shampoo you can buy in the store! I was doing ACV rinses to help with dryness of hair and scalp. Since switching to this shampoo bar I no longer need to do that rinse!
My hair is clean and smooth and the wash lasts for about 3 days!
