Moisturizer
Apply a small amount to skin using clean fingertips, then use a circular motion to gently massage onto clean skin.
Normal Skin
DO NOT OVER-APPLY! Your skin should fully absorb the tallow in less than 30 minutes. You should only be left with soft, matte-toned skin. If you skin still feels too oily after 30 minutes, then you have applied too much. Wipe off the excess and use less next time.
Dry Skin
And in cases with eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis:
Leave on an extra layer of tallow to help protect, nourish, balance, and moisturize your skin.
Oily
You may or may not need a tallow butter at. Although high-quality tallow is non-comedogenic (not found to clog pores). Acne-prone skin types still have issues if too much moisturizer of any type is applied to the skin.
Avoid using strong scents or other irritating ingredients on your delicate face. We recommend everyone start with our plain unscented tallow butter before moving onto more advanced or scented tallow butters.
Our Tallow Butters are the final 2 steps in your skincare routine:
- Cleanse (1-3 X Daily)
- Exfoliate (1-2 X Weekly)
- Detox (1-2 X Weekly)
- Tone (1-3 X Daily)
- Protect/Treat (1-3 X Daily)
- Moisturize (1-3 X Daily)
IMPORTANT NOTE: Tallow balances and regulates your skin’s natural moisture levels, rather than drying it out as most lotions do. This isn’t an advantage for the seller, but it’s fantastic for the consumer! Tallow helps the skin rely LESS on moisturizers, instead of using MORE moisturizer over time. Tallow will improve your skin’s moisture regulation, unlike commercial lotions. So be prepared to use less and less over time in your tallow routine!
Remove Makeup
Apply heavily on skin and rub in well. Wipe off tallow butter and makeup with a warm, wet washcloth.
Repeat if needed.
Wash off any excess with our facial soap and water if desired.
Oil Cleanse
For dry skin types, our tallow butters can be used as a moisturizing facial cleanser. Use it in the same way you would an oil cleanser.
The directions would be the same as our makeup removal instructions above:
Apply heavily on skin and rub in well. Then, wipe off tallow butter with a warm, wet washcloth.
Use By
Use all your tallow within 3-6 months after touching it. Contaminants from handling exposure will break down the contents faster than when it is left untouched. Please see the best by date on each product listing before buying. The best by date is also found on the product’s price sticker.
FAQ’s
Will tallow butter cause breakouts?
If you have acne-prone skin, please be careful not to over-apply. Still consider if your skin truly needs a moisturizer of any kind. Although high-quality tallow is non-comedogenic (not found to clog pores). Acne-prone skin types still have issues if too much moisturizer of any type is applied to the skin.
Why does tallow bead sometimes?
We can compare farm-fresh grass-fed tallow to natural raw honey in this instance. Like raw natural honey that crystallizes, farm-fresh suet tallow can develop hard beads of tallow over time… We don’t make it with these lumps of love! Tallow beads take more work to melt on the skin when rubbed in. Beading occurs randomly and inconsistently; we can’t predict or prevent natural beading. If you want to re-melt your product to dissolve the beads, remove the product from the container. Gently and slowly re-heat the tallow until melted, then turn off the heat. Re-whip or stir the tallow while cooling, then put it back in the container. We appreciate the integrity of our natural ingredients made in small batches!
Why does tallow smell / look / feel different sometimes?
We can compare tallow to raw honey in this instance as well. Raw natural honey can have a different taste, color, or texture due to different locations and seasons of the harvest. Farm-fresh tallow can also have a different smell, color, and texture due to different seasons or cows. Even from the same farmer and location. These are due to factors out of our control. These factors include: foraging diet, age, genetics, environment, and how the animal is butchered. We appreciate the integrity of our natural ingredients made in small batches!
Thank you for loving our local, farm-fresh ingredients!
