Why does tallow bead sometimes?
We can compare farm-fresh grass-fed tallow to natural raw honey in this instance. Like raw natural honey that crystallizes, farm-fresh suet tallow can develop hard beads of tallow over time… We don’t make it with these lumps of love! Tallow beads take more work to melt on the skin when rubbed in. Beading occurs randomly and inconsistently; we can’t predict or prevent natural beading. If you want to re-melt your product to dissolve the beads, remove the product from the container. Gently and slowly re-heat the tallow until melted, then turn off the heat. Re-whip or stir the tallow while cooling, then put it back in the container. We appreciate the integrity of our natural ingredients made in small batches!
Why does tallow smell / look / feel different sometimes?
We can compare tallow to raw honey in this instance as well. Raw natural honey can have a different taste, color, or texture due to different locations and seasons of the harvest. Farm-fresh tallow can also have a different smell, color, and texture due to different seasons or cows. Even from the same farmer and location. These are due to factors out of our control. These factors include: foraging diet, age, genetics, environment, and how the animal is butchered. We appreciate the integrity of our natural ingredients made in small batches!

However, this product was made in our one and only facility where we manufacture all of our products (scented and unscented). Therefore, atmospheric scent may or may not transfer over at a detectable level to any unscented product.
We take every precaution possible to reduce surface-level atmospheric scent transfers by:
- Using extra manufacturing tools ONLY for unscented products.
- Our “unscented” manufacturing tools are stored in completely separate containers.
- Cleaning and sanitizing ALL manufacturing tools and surfaces between each batch.
- NEVER letting our unscented products touch our scented products (either directly or indirectly)!
Please keep in mind that our shipping supplies are stored in our same small business facility where we make scented products, so they may have an atmospheric scent transfer.
If any atmospheric scent is detected by sensitive buyers, we recommend to allow the atmospheric scent transfer to dissipate:
- Remove the unscented products from all shipping materials and any materials around the product.
- Let the unscented product sit out naked (for a few days to a few weeks) in a dry atmosphere devoid of any scent with good air flow.
- Once you start using the unscented product, even the most sensitive users may not notice the surface-level atmospheric scent transfer disappears.

✋ How To Use
💧 MOISTURIZER
Spread a minimal amount of tallow onto the skin using clean, dry hands.
Apply more tallow as needed.
Always keep a generous layer of tallow present on the skin for special conditions.
✨ CLEANSER
Massage tallow well onto skin with clean, dry hands for up to a minute, then wipe off with a warm wet washcloth.
This tallow can be safely used around the eyes, although the fats may temporarily blur vision.
Double cleanse as needed.
Reapply a clean layer of tallow afterwards to calm, protect, and moisturize the skin.
📏 Usage Rate
Recommended to use on any skin type that needs moisturization, balancing, or cleansing. Best used at least twice daily upon waking in the morning and at night before bed, reapplying throughout the day as needed. If the application is rubbed or wiped off, a reapplication will be necessary to reap the benefits of continuous use.
⏳ Duration
Most users say this 2 oz jar of tallow lasts them approximately 2-4 weeks if used generously on large sections of the body, or approximately 2-4 months if used minimally on the face.
📦 Storage
Store in a safe, dry place at room-temperature. Keep out of direct sunlight and the reach of pets or children that may try to consume it without supervision.

This is probably my fave product out of all of them that I have. I use it on my face and it has done wonders for it. This stuff is the best. I love it! I have also used it on my hands but mostly for my face. I’m too worried to try scented ones on my face so I get the unscented. I have got scented ones for my 15 year old daughter and some of the scented ones I’ve gotten for her smell amazing!

This is the only skin moisturizer I’ve used for the past two and a half years, and it has been a joy to use. For some reason my skin has always been dry, so I use this cream every day, especially after washing my hands. It is concentrated, so only a tiny amount, maybe the size of a sunflower seed, spreads over both of my hands. The cream often has tiny particles of hard tallow in it, which are easily softened by rubbing with my fingertips against my palm. I like the fact that this is made principally out of animal fat, because I don’t like having a lot of plant oils absorb into my skin and bloodstream. And it keeps my skin moisturized for a lot longer than the plant-based creams I used before. I hope that Perma-Earth never stops making this product. My skin loves it, and I plan to use it for the rest of my life.

I have used other unscented whipped tallows before and thought I would mix it up and order from Perma Earth. The tallow seems fine except unlike other unscented whipped tallows I have used before, it has a VERY STRONG SMELL. Like cooking grease. Don’t know why that is the case, but it makes it unusable for me especially on my face. Quite disappointing.
I also ordered the unscented tallow spf which has no smell, great! Why then does the straight whipped tallow smell like cold french fries?

Update: I ran out of my other whipped tallow and very begrudgingly tried the perma earth. The smell is unpleasant, but the product is remarkable!?!
It has made such a dramatic difference in my skin (which is recovering from laser resurfacing) in just 5 days, that I am wondering about the quality of the other whipped tallows I have used in the past….
I will use it in spite of the smell, which is really saying something!

Hi Mary! We have since perfected our rendering process to reduce the likelihood of beefy smells. The spf has zinc oxide, which is a natural deodorizer.

This tallow is a wonderful option for those of you who really don’t want any scent, or it is really great to add your own EO to if you’re into that sort of thing! I didn’t like the unscented tallow personally, I couldn’t get over the steak pan smell… but I did end up melting it down and putting some EO I had on hand and it worked just fine. I probably won’t get it again because I like other options more, but it’s still an amazing product. Tallow is THE BEST moisturizer!!!

I always knew I loved this stuff for the obvious reasons. It moisturizes, is natural and healthy, and it doesn’t take much to do the job. It recently got cold in Florida and my sinuses went haywire. Needless to say my nose became raw from all of the tissue use and it was making me more miserable. Then I had an aha moment and started applying this several times a day and within 24 hours, my nose feels drastically better and I know I’m going to avoid the dry, chapped nose it usually turns into. I’ve been having trouble with “natural” face products for about 3-6 months now. I would be able to use a product and then I could feel it starting to burn me after a while. However, this product feels so raw and natural and it keeps me moisturized WITHOUT being greasy. The bottom half of my face gets way greasier than my top and I couldn’t tell the difference. This is a miracle product for me and I’m going to get the face wash next. My only critique is I don’t care for the smell, it literally makes me hungry, but I’m worried about the scents burning my face. I’ll eventually try a sample eventually to see. My skin has never felt better. I introduced Perma Earth’s tallow near the beginning of 2022 and have never looked back. My first order was the smaller, 2oz glass jar. After just one use I noticed how deeply moisturized my skin felt, and also noticed my acne fading quickly after a few days. I didn’t notice any bad smell at all. I bought the 6oz tin so that I had more longevity out of the tallow since I like to apply it to my entire body. The 6oz has lasted so long and leaves my skin feeling so nourished and soft. So easy to apply because of the nice tin it’s in and also your best option because you can use it multiple ways! What I like to do sometimes is blend a little (in a separate container/my hands) with diluted essential oils like peppermint and apply it on my tired legs or with diluted tea tree oil and apply it to my face. I just make sure to use up all the tallow I just blended with diluted EO right away. But it’s really just great as is, you can apply it on your face, lips, and body! You’ll love it!

This tallow is so nourishing. I use it every day as my lotion for legs, hands & feet. It absorbs very nicely & has helped my skin very much. I even use it as a lip balm several times throughout my days. The smell will throw you off at first, it’s a light beef scent. As soon as I get out of the shower, or right after washing my face, I pat dry, and rub half-a-dime size scoop of the whipped tallow evenly across my face/neck! My first time trying tallow. I’ve been using it on tough, dry skin like my elbows, and it really seems that they are softening –even though I don’t apply it every day. I wondered about the scent (due to another review), but really it was only the first time I opened the jar that it smelled slightly natural/animal; when I’m applying this product, I don’t notice any scent. This whipped tallow is the best moisturizer I’ve ever used! I was looking for a really nourishing moisturizer to help mitigate the effects of hard water, which irritates and dries my skin. This whipped tallow is extremely helpful for that, unlike anything else I have used, although I do like to add Earthley’s Soothing Skin Balm for extra help with the skin irritation. This whipped tallow does not leave me feeling greasy and I can definitely feel the effects when I go without using it!
Because I use so much of the whipped tallow, I ran out of it within a month.

The smell doesn’t bother me, but let’s talk about how moisturized I am. This is what true moisturization should feel like. It’s very lush, and I don’t feel greasy at all. Put this in chapped feet, and socks and your heels with be SMOOTH in just a few hours. Love it!

No big deal when this product absorbs into your skin real well and still leaves it moisturized. I have noticed the pores on my nose have dramatically decreased which has NEVER happened!
