Detoxifying Clay Mask

Approximately 6 to 12 uses per 1/2 oz Jar

Benefits:

Unscented, Pulling, Soothing, Balancing, Anti-Microbial

Our clay and buttermilk masks are called “Clay-Opatra” because the famously beautiful Egyptian Queen Cleopatra bathed in buttermilk daily to maintain her gorgeous skin. These buttermilk and clay masks will be your new favorite facecare routine!

Ingredients:

Powdered Cultured Buttermilk

  • Buttermilk gives your skin a natural extra boost of beautifying proteins and AHA’s (alpha-hydroxy acids) to renew and nourish your skin from the outside-in.
  • AHA’s increase cellular turnover and encourage skin’s rejuvenation, making your skin act and appear more youthful.
  • The main AHA in buttermilk is a protein called Lactic Acid.
  • It would take an entire article to explain all of the nutritious benefits of buttermilk… so we did! Read our article about the vast nutrient contents of buttermilk here.

Dead Sea Clay

  • The Dead Sea is a salt water lake in the Middle East, bordered by Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan to the East. The geographical features of the Dead Sea — including the fact that the lake is at the lowest sea level of any body of water on earth and surrounded by mountains — makes the surrounding silt and mud naturally rich with a unique combination of minerals like magnesium, sodium, and potassium.
  • Dead Sea mud has been tested [Source] and proven to have an antimicrobial effect on strains of bacteria that live on human skin. Since overgrowth or presence of certain bacteria can lead to acne, it’s possible that this is why Dead Sea mud has been used to treat breakouts since biblical times.
  • Mud masks can work to remove impurities and dead skin on your body.∇
  • An added benefit of Dead Sea mud is that the salt and magnesium in it can improve your skin’s functionality by making it a better barrier and more elastic.∇

Activated Black Charcoal

  • Activated charcoal effectively cleanses the skin, unclogs pores, removes deeper impurities, and dead skin cells. The result is smooth, supple, and even-toned skin.
  • Activated charcoal is made by burning wood until it has small pores that increase its surface area, resulting in a highly absorbent, ultra-fine, black powder.

Certified Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Powder

  • Certified Organic Aloe Vera Juice has many active ingredients and minerals to feed your skin: its amino acids, vitamins, and minerals can contribute to a healthier epidermis.∇
  • A great natural moisturizer and can help to soothe dry skin without clogging pores, actually minimizing acne breakouts.∇
  • Has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles.∇
  • Wonderful for soothing faster healing from sun burns and/or high temperature heat burns.∇
  • Top 6 Benefits of Aloe Vera for Skin with scientific explanations:
    1. Soothing Sunburns and Skin Injuries
Aloe vera soothes sunburns and skin injuries by increasing collagen synthesis and cross-linking. This helps reduce any resulting scar tissue and speeds up wound healing. Aloe also contains compounds called aloin and anthraquinones, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits that can help alleviate pain and promote healing.
But take heed: Aloe vera should only be applied to mild-to-moderate 1st & 2nd-degree burns—more severe burns need to be treated in a medical facility.
    2. Moisturizing Skin
Since aloe vera contains humectants (substances that attract water from the air or from deeper in the skin), it’s thought to be especially beneficial for dry skin types. Aloe specifically contains mucopolysaccharides, which bind moisture into the skin. It also has cohesive effects by sticking together flaking epidermal skin cells, resulting in softer skin and improved skin integrity.
    3. Fading Dark Spots and Stretch Marks
There are two compounds in aloe that may fade dark spots and stretch marks: aloesin and aloin. In one study, aloesin was applied four times per day for 15 days and was found to be effective in treating UV-induced and post-acne hyperpigmentation. Another study found aloin destroyed melanin cells (an overproduction of which causes dark spots to form) in pigmented cells by blocking activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for melanin production.
    4. Managing Acne
Aloe vera contains naturally occurring salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, cinnamic acid, phenols and sulfur—all of which inhibit the growth of fungi, bacteria and viruses. It also has anti-inflammatory capabilities, which suppresses P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. Salicylic acid is currently one of the best ways to prevent acne, since it sheds dead cells from the outer layer of the skin and decreases redness and inflammation.
    5. Soothing Skin Conditions
Flare-ups of psoriasis—an inflammatory condition that causes red, itchy and scaly patches—may be better managed with aloe vera in the mix, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Ditto eczema, a skin condition that causes your skin to become red and itchy and more prone to fungal and bacterial infections: Aloe has antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties that may soothe eczema by hydrating and protecting it from contaminants.
    6. Slowing Signs of Aging
Because aloe vera contains vitamins C and E, it stands to reason it may help prevent the formation of free radicals, which are the molecules that cause cell damage. Meanwhile, the salicylic acid it contains acts as a gentle exfoliant—and once those pesky dead skin cells are out of the way, your other skin-care products might better penetrate the surface and do their thing more effectively as a result.

NO SCENT OF ANY KIND WAS ADDED AS AN INGREDIENT TO THIS PRODUCT!

However, this product was made in our one and only facility where we manufacture all of our products (scented and unscented). Therefore, atmospheric scent may or may not transfer over at a detectable level to any unscented product.

We take every precaution possible to reduce surface-level atmospheric scent transfers by:

  • Using extra manufacturing tools ONLY for unscented products.
  • Our “unscented” manufacturing tools are stored in completely separate containers.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing ALL manufacturing tools and surfaces between each batch.
  • NEVER letting our unscented products touch our scented products (either directly or indirectly)!

Please keep in mind that our shipping supplies are stored in our same small business facility where we make scented products, so they may have an atmospheric scent transfer.

If any atmospheric scent is detected by sensitive buyers, we recommend to allow the atmospheric scent transfer to dissipate:

  1.  Remove the unscented products from all shipping materials and any materials around the product.
  2.  Let the unscented product sit out naked (for a few days to a few weeks) in a dry atmosphere devoid of any scent with good air flow.
  3.  Once you start using the unscented product, even the most sensitive users may not notice the surface-level atmospheric scent transfer disappears.

Best By Date: 11/4/2027

Store in a room-temperature, dry place out of direct sunlight.

We recommend using within 1 year of first use for best results, as scents and contents fade and break down faster over time once disturbed.

  1. ldorson

I am a big fan of most of the masks from permaearth and this one especially. I feel like my skin looks cleaner & healthier the day after I use it. Currently I use it about once a week & sometimes I mix it with the blue pearl mask and I love the results. The amount of applications I get per container is good but I wish it was sold in a bigger amount than .5 oz!

    • MariahJadeC

Dear Lindsey, I am sorry to say that we have actually thought about downsizing our masks even though they are already at 0.5 oz, which is 6-12 applications. However, I will take this to the team with this feedback. If you want a bigger deal with more product, please take advantage of our bulk discounts, which are there for those who want to use more product and get a better deal!

  2. Alina George

I absolutely love this face mask. It’s not scented or fragranced so my skin does freak out from it. I love mixing the mask with water and applying it onto my face for about 20 minutes for a deep detox before washing it off. The clay dries and feels a little crusty, which is when you know it’s time to wash it off. Great mask.

  3. lovethyalpaca

This clay mask is great. I love that you can mix up different stuff in it. It is not scented, but you have so many options of things to add to it. It really helps pull a bunch of gunk out of your skin. My skin is always so nice after I use one of the clay masks, and moisturize with tallow afterwards. Highly recommend.
