This handcrafted soap was inspired by the original soaps made by old-fashioned homemakers hundreds of years ago.
Save money and the environment by making your own powder detergent with this plastic-free soap!
Ultra-concentrated bars save you from back-breaking lifting while moving heavy and bulky liquid detergent containers.
At a SuperFat content of 0%, this soap is very “hard” or alkaline, which would be drying to the skin, but it is perfect for cleaning as it lifts away grease, light stains, and smells with ease when compared to other natural soaps. This hard texture also makes it very easy to grate or process into small pellets, which I recommend to mix with washing soda and borax for extra cleaning and brightening power!
Scent Strength: Light to Medium
SMALL LOAD RECIPE: ½ Tbs of grated soap with 1/8 cup or 2 Tbsp of a mix of half washing soda and half borax (or all washing soda if you do not have borax). 1 bar of soap should get you anywhere between 40-80 of these loads depending on how generous your scoops are. Feel free to add baking soda for extra odor-absorption, but it is not necessary.
Pretreat tough stains by scrubbing the stain and rinsing with this soap and water, or use different stain treatments dependent upon the culprit (hydrogen peroxide for blood, vinegar for wine, etc.)
FABRIC SOFTENER: Add cleaning vinegar as a liquid softener and brightener to your laundry cycle.
FRAGRANCE: If you purchased our unscented bar, you can add your own liquid fragrance to the washing cycle in the form of essential oils or your own fragrance in the strength of your liking!
I love this recipe and have used it for years in different machines (from HE to non-HE, front-loading to top-loading) and never had any problems with build-up or machine dysfunction, but I would recommend that you read your instruction manual and make sure your machine is working optimally on a regular basis no matter what detergent you use.
Hand-Washing: This soap is for hand-washing your dishes only. We offer 100% cotton scrubby washcloths and luffah sponges in our shop to assist with this.
1. Rub washcloth with soap and water to get a little lather.
2. Use soapy washcloth to wash dishes. You may want to pre-soak some heavy-duty dirty dishes with some soapy water.
3. Rinse dishes in clean water or with a vinegar and water mix (2 tablespoons of vinegar to a gallon of water)
4. Let air dry or dry off with a clean towel.
