Pearl Powder

Pearl powder consists of finely crushed freshwater or saltwater pearls. We use freshwater pearls in some of our products.

Its natural ingredients include calcium, amino acids, trace minerals and conchiolin protein. Calcium makes up 30-80% of pearl powder. Pearl powder has over 30 trace minerals in it, including silica, magnesium, sodium, copper and selenium. Conchiolin protein is believed to promote collagen production.

History of Use: It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and Indian ayurvedic practices for hundreds of years. In fact, the first recorded use of pearl powder can be traced back over 1,500 years ago. Ancient Chinese medical history contains references to powdered pearl. From the present day dating back to 320 AD, powdered pearl has been used as traditional Chinese medicine for treating eye disease, tuberculosis and even heart attacks. The Chinese have also used pearl powder as an ingredient in cosmetics to support healthy, glowing skin. India has historically used pearl powder for a wide array of physical and mental conditions including eye conditions, consumption, aging, and as an aphrodisiac. In addition to China and India, Europe has a history of using pearl powder since the Middle Ages. Medieval European royalty and nobility were the most likely to use pearl powder as it was a rare luxury in the continent at that time. Early European uses included skin care and treatment for fevers and mental illnesses. Today, pearl powder is globally used in cosmetics, moisturizers and sunscreens. It has also been touted as a superfood.

It is an excellent micro-exfoliant. It has been purported to promote a clear complexion and glowing skin. Users have reported anti-aging and moisturizing effects.
